Hi, can anybody out there help please? I am trying to find out any info regarding numbers 1-8 North View , Stoneferry, Kingston upon Hull. I have been told that they were once tied farmer's cottages and also they housed ice cream factory workers although I have found no evidence for any of these comments. Can you let me know or point me in the right direction?
Happy Xmas.
Cheers.

I don't think I can help you directly .. but .. my own rellies lived at Cottingham (and are here in 1841 census) but in the 1851 census, they are listed as Stoneferry, Sutton Parish. He was a William Stephenson 35 Wheelwright .. born: Doncaster. I do not live in the area .. so I do not know how big 'Stoneferry' was .. or if there is still an area called Stoneferry. My own rellies went to Canada in 1854.

Hi
Stoneferry is now a part of Hull, if looking at a current map then it is approximately the east end of Clough Road and Leads Road area. Most of this area includes a large B&Q, industrial units and some housing, very little, if anything, remains of any great age.
happy new year

I live in the Stoneferry area and there is a remaining farm house at the bottom of Woodhall Street. I also understand that some farm dwellings were demolished to make way for the new recreation ground for the Reckitt & Colman company. Try the Hull History Centre and there is also a very good web-site about The Garden Village area which were the house build by Reckitt & Colman for their staff at the turn on the century. Hope this helps, best wishes.
