Post by: Fairmeadow2 on Monday 26 December 11 14:53 GMT (UK)
Seeking information about the birth, baptism or family of Susan COX, born c.1845 in Ruardean, Glos (according to the 1901 census).

She married John JONES, a plasterer, at some date before 1868 and lived in and around Coleford, Glos, from <1868->1901.

According to the 1881 and 1891 returns she was born approx 1842, so this looks a possibility :

Birth, Mar qtr 1842
Susan Cox
Ross, Vol 26, page 199

I've just had a look at a tree on Ancestry which claims John and Susan married
on the 24th December 1866 at the Independent Chapel, Monmouth. This might be worth checking up on.

Wow. Thank you Pels. This is simply amazing.

We don't know the area well. Susan COX's granddaughter went into service, and then off to Tenby, Pembs, with the family she served, and married there. We have previously been concentrating on the Pembrokeshire lines.

We did visit Coleford, Newland & Scowles once a few years ago, where Susan COX/JONES and her family lived after marriage and where the grandaughter lived as a child. It was lovely, but at that time we didn't have enough information to make sense of it. We may now be due another visit!
