Title: Durkin Family, 1891 Census, Liverpool
Post by: stapler40 on Friday 23 December 11 20:05 GMT (UK)
Hello:

I am attempting to locate the census return for my great grandfather, James Durkin, born approximately 1881 in Liverpool. I have a marriage record for James Durkin and Elizabeth Garner, 1901, in St. Joseph's, Liverpool. I know that James father, Michael was born in Ireland, and he was a french polisher.

Thanks

According to www.liverpoolhistoryprojects.co.uk Michael Durkin married Julia Moher in 1860 at St Nicholas RC church

The marriage is also on ancestry Michael Durkin of Blake Street son of James Durkin and Julia Moher of Cropper Street and daughter of John Moher. It took place on 18 Nov 1860 at St Nicholas RC.

Would appreciate some help here:

In the 1881 census, a Julia Durkin is listed as 43 years of age, which, if correct, would give her a birthdate of approximately 1838. We know that her husband is listed as a widow on the 1891 census, so looking between 1881 and 1891 I've located one Julia Dukin, died Manchester, 1882, age 39..which would give her a birth year of 1843..a difference of 5 years.

This is the only death record that I've been able to find for a Julia Durkin in West Derby. Any thoughts?

Cheers

Hi

If you want to see or of copy any original census records without having to join the Ancestry.co.Uk website at home . Go to any main town/city library and ask them to put you on their free Ancestry.com library edition on public computer. Take a Memory stick with you then there no need for a charge for paper copies or about 10p each per A4 copy.

The staff will help you find the records.

Hi

My great grandfather was also James Durkin (a french polisher), I have a copy of Census of Ireland which he although born in Liverpool was living in Belfast, Ireland.  He was born around 1881, and his wife was Elizabeth, with 6 children at the time of census, one of which was my grandmother.  When they lived in Liverpool they attended SFX church, as they lived around Everton Brow.  I wonder if you are a cousin?

 :)

Hello:

It may well be that we are distant cousins. I have been researching the Durkins for some time now and I would to find some of my grandmother's sisters. Tell me about your family. Have you looked at my family tree on ancestry.co.uk, the name is Hillick Family Tree. Take a look at the Durkin branch and let me know if I am missing anything.

Cheers
