I want to start searching for details about my great grand father Thomas Sanders born 1868 married to Ellen bourke sanders and father of my grandmother Janet Ellen Sanders Fletcher Gledhill. He was in WA for a time but apparently moved back east. I don't know how to do this

Your grnadmother Janet Ellen Sanders birth registration gives her father's name as Thomas James Sanders and mother as Ellen Bourke. registration no 1209 Perth WA.
That middle name of James for Thomas may help sort him out from others when searching.
If you don't have subscriptions to any genealogy sites you can access ancestry.com at some public libraries so may be worth asking at yours.
I found the details for Janet's birth on there.
There will be someone along soon with more knowledge on sites to use when searching for Australian data. :)

There is a WW1 record for Thomas Sanders, living WA, b. Guildford, Vic...44 6/12 at Jan 1916....platelayer.
NOK wife Ellen, allowances to Walter James Sanders, Joseph Sanders and Winifred Sanders.
WW2 nominal roll has Joseph Sanders, b. 7 Mar 1909, Perth, WA, NOK Ellen Sanders, Clifton Hill, enlisted 20 Apr 1942.
WA BDM has Walter James Sanders b. 1904, Perth, parents Thomas James Sanders, Ellen Bourke.
WA BDM has Winifred Sanders b. 1907
So three other children to this couple 1904+ and you would expect a few more between 1896 for Janet, and 1904.

Wow, thanks folks!. I know I'm asking the impossible here, but I want to know why my great grandparents came to WA? My Grandmother Janet Ellen married my Grandfather Leslie Gledhill and had my Dad, uncles and Aunts and then the Great Grandparents (and apparently most of their kids) returned to the east, why? My Grandmother died in 1940 from cancer and my great grand father (her dad) died a year later. Does anyone know what type of cancer my grandmother died from? What did my Great Grand father die from? Was my Grandmother Janet Ellen really the daughter of Ellen bourke Sanders or was she the daughter of Janet Rankin Sanders? What did Janet Rankin die from? Thanks everybody.

Hullo Fourthdaughter, Finding the reasons why people do things can only come from personal papers, letters, etc. Online resources dont cover reasons.
Your grandmothers death certificate along with those other members of family will have cause of death. Some will have length of illness and treating doctor, if it was in a hospital those records are available to immediate provable family.
You can purchase the DC's or transcripts of those which are cheaper.
As you find out more about each family member you can start to put a picture together. Most people move for Work or family reasons, sometimes housing comes into play. Look at the times and what was happening both where they lived and where they went to. Quite often people moved to a location on the recomendation of others, this can be government schemes or private friendships/family. Good Luck in your search.
Happy Christmas :)

TROVE has death notices for you grandmother Janet Ellen GLEDHILL. They list her siblings in Victoria (seems to be the sons Clarence, Tom, Walter and Joseph) and NSW (Marion and Winnie), and states that she is the daughter of "Mr and Mrs T SANDERS".

None of the records I can see have "Rankin" in them. You would need to look at the birth certificate/s.
