Title: Prisoner in Adam Street Prison 1901
Post by: BobQ on Friday 23 December 11 02:03 GMT (UK)
Hi,
Joseph Barnes was a prisoner in the Adam Street Prison, Cardiff, according to the 1901 census. His age and place of birth suggest that he may be related to me. Is there any way I can find out any further details about him, from e.g. prison records or his original trial, that may identify him further?

Bob

Ask the Glamorgan Record Office if they have the prison registers etc. If they do there is a good chance that they will be 'open' documents, being more than 100 years old for the date you are after.

Failing that ask the prison where the records are.

Try the Western Mail for contemporary coverage of his trial (assuming you know the trial date e.g. in 1901 had he been in prison for a few months or 20 years?)

Cardiff Library have the WM on microfilm, as far as I know. Not sure if it is indexed.

There is a Joseph John Barnes aged 29 in September 1900 mentioned in the Western Mail - for attempted murder to his wife  - Mary Ann !!!!  They had four children - and was from White Hart Lane, Plumstead - do you think this could be him if so I can copy the article for you and email it to you ??

Morganllan,
You have misunderstood!  I have no connections with the writer but was interested in the subject.  And was hoping he would remember to let us know.  So many interesting topics are left in the air.

Hello Abiam2  :D

These threads are interesting, but sometimes it takes time to digest such information about our relatives, and also to check that it is the right connection.

Hopefully Bob will let us know once he has checked the facts.

Kind regards
Morgan
