Title: Curragh Army Camp
Post by: AntoR22 on Tuesday 20 December 11 14:04 GMT (UK)
Hi all

My great great grandfather Robert Snelson Cowap I believe was stationed at the Curragh during the period 1864/1871 when he left to marry an Irish girl Anne Downes from Cork .
He was with the 18th Royal Irish Regiment of Foot ..

Is there a list anywhere that might confirm this ??

Many Thanks ...Anthony

Anthony,

The 1st Battalion was in Ireland between 1868 and 1872 apparently.

Hi Phil..

Thanks for that information so many links to other sites it'll take a while to go through it all ..
I doubt if I'll find anything with his actual name on it as apparently they only kept records of pensionable soldiers an seems he wasnt in long enough for that ..

Thanks for taking the time to reply..

Regards .. Anthony

Anthony,

Have you got the marriage cert? Robert Cowap married Anne Downes in the registration district of Naas in 1871, Volume 2, Page 959.

Also if you go to http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ and enter the two surnames youll find a few births and marriages in Dublin.
