Hi
FamilySearch indicates that John Bushell married Ann Shepherd at Maidstone on the 2nd January 1837. Additional on line checks suggests that it was at All Saints Maidstone. Unfortunately neither gave any other details such as the parents names or father's occupation which will help me confirm if they are my g g grand parents.
Can anyone please help?

I'm afraid I can't help with parents names or occupations - not always available for pre-General Registration marriages, but transcriptions I have do give the witnesses which may help you identify if it is the right couple.

Do you have a childs Birth Cert that confirms these names as the Parents?

Are we looking for the Marriage of the Parents of Mary Jane Shepherd c 1838, Gravesend, Kent?
1851 in Limehouse, Middlesex with Mother ANN, Widow, born c 1819, Teston, Norfolk?

Many thanks for the replies.
It is the marriage of the parents of Mary Jane Bushell that I am trying to find. Mary was born 6/4/1838 in Robert Street, Gravesend, to John Bushell and Ann Shepherd. The Informant on the birth certificate was the "occupier of House, Mary Shepherd", so it is interesting that one of the Maidstone marriage witnesses had the same initial. I don't have any knowledge of a George Leest but its another avenue to try.
It is my Ann Shepherd in the 1851 Census in Limehouse although her place of birth is a mystery. I Cannot find a Teston in Norfolk and although there is a Teston village in the district of Maidstone, I have always assumed that the handwriting looks more like Irstead, which is a village in Norfolk. However, I have tried and failed to find a Christening record in either Norfolk or Kent. Also I have not been able to find any trace of Ann after the 1851 census when she was only 32 years old.

Have you condidered that Ann has married again, especially if you can't find her as Ann BUSHELL after 1851.
FreeBMD has a few Ann BUSHELL marriages after 1851 in the London area.

Ann BUSHELL, widow, aged 37 marries John Warren, widower, aged 60 at St. Philips Church, Bethnal Green on
5th August 1855. Her father is given as Benjamin SHEPHERD.
I think you should be able to trace her in censuses now with her new name.

Do we now think it was Irstead in Norfolk then?

If you're still chasing Ann Shepherd, from Irstead in Norfolk, she married twice more - John Warren in 1855 and Fred Biggs in 1861. She died in Chiswick 1881 - I have the death certificate.
