Title: GRO certificate ordering insecure?
Post by: kevarms on Thursday 15 December 11 18:00 GMT (UK)
Hi,
I've just went onto the GRO website to order a cert but I noticed the address line looks like this. I think this means it's unsafe to edit credit card details etc. Strange, as I've used the site many, many times and never seen this before. I'm using Google Chrome and Windows 7.

I have just been on and the site was indicating it was https ie it is secure

still if yopu are unhappy with that you canh try the site Guy Etchells has just put up (which just takes you back to the gro site  ;D)

It leads to the same site but I believe the future plan is to change to the direct.gov url eventually.

When the link eventually changes the direct.gov site will carry the direct link.
Cheers

Thanks guys, yes same problem with that link and I also tried using Internet Explorer instead of Chrome. Also behaving a bit strangely, but I chanced it anyway. The stage where credit card details is a completely different website (worldpay.com) so I think it will be ok.  :-\

Thanks again,
Kevin

Precisely - the GRO uses Worldpay for payments, which is a secure site, so there's no problem, as far as I'm concerned.

I've been getting the same problem with a few sites when using Google Chrome for a few weeks, but not if I user Internet Explorer.  This is the explanation from Google: http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en-GB&answer=95617.

The link shown by Cathie indicates that your browser thinks it has either detected insecure content on that site or a problem with the site's security certificate.
As this also shows when you use IE but most other people's browsers are not highlighting the same, this could indicate a problem at your end. One reason browsers indicate a problem with the security certificate, is if your PC clock being wrong. Hover over the clock (bottom right) and confirm the time AND date are correct to rule this out.
