Title: Nursing Home in Hull
Post by: Stangat on Monday 12 December 11 18:07 GMT (UK)
Hi All

Could someone with access to a 1936ish Kellys Directory have a look for "Inchgarvie" Nursing Home which was on Albert Avenue, Hull? I am trying to confirm which number it was on Albert Ave.

Thanks

Ian

Hi

A few years later - but this 1961 report in London Gazette,  indicates the home was at 91 - 93 Albert Avenue
http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/42486/supplements/7403/page.pdf

And this one 1953, says Nr. 93 Albert Avenue:

Hi AMBLY

That's exactly what I wanted to find out for certain. My Dad was born there in 1935 and we wanted to see if it was still there. Unfortunately it would appear to have gone now as some newish flats appear to be where 91/93 should be. Funnily enough though both my Mum and Dad thought it was to the left of Lowther Street but as far as I can tell it would be to the right :-\

Anyway

Thanks for your really quick response

Ian

Hello there,
My brother and I were both born at Inchgarvie Nursing home, opposite the swimming baths on albert avenue. Both of our birth certs. state 91, but maybe it expanded later. It was there still in the fifties with Incharvue in the glass over the door but when i went to look again, last year, it had gone. It seems that a few of the houses have been pulled down to make way for new housing.

Hi All - My Late brother was born at Inchgarvie in july 1953. He passed away a few years ago and left a colour slide collection which i am going through. I have found two colour slides taken in 1974. Both are clearly marked Inchgarvie 91 Albert Avenue. I've tried to copy and paste them on here but it won't
let me. If anybody would like me to e-mail the photos to you just let me know. Or if you want to see the photos first. There is a facebook group called "Hull Areas The Old Years" with a post from a lady called Shirley Hare started approx 1630hrs today. I have posted both pictures on that thread. there are two other photos which show other houses but Inchgarvie also just on both photos. After i posted them i googled Inchgarvie Hull and it led me to this forum and thread.
