Title: EDMONDS
Post by: Crabby on Sunday 11 December 11 17:33 GMT (UK)
G'day RootsChatters

I am researching the Surname EDMONDS and have surfed across  George Gilbert EDMONDS who lived in Ipswich around 1895.
This came from his being the next of kin, father,of George William EDMONDS b c 1895, who was KIA in 1917 at Ypres while serving with the Australian Army.

I assume that George Gilbert EDMONDS was born around 1870 and married Emily Pearce .....? before 1895 in Ipswich.

Of particular importance is to discover the parents of George Gilbert EDMONDS.

Can any RootsChatter please assist?

With sincere thanks

Hi,

FreeBMD has this birth registration:

George Gilbert Edmonds    MarQ 1875    Camberwell  1d    727

If this is your man then both parents should be shown on birth certificate.

Hi Crabby, we now have a George Gilbert Edmonds b c 1870, who is now possibly a George Gilbert Edmonds b c 1828 having a child George William Edmonds c 1895, is that your reasoning?
So is the 1901 posted by Nanny Jan your George W or not, ie a man of 73 with a 22 year old wife ?

G'day

George Gilbert EDMONDS, my GreatGrandfather, was born abt 1828, possibly in Wexford IRE.

After 20+ years of research, I may have been successful in tracing him to Rathespeck Wex.  He died in 1906 in Brisbane and he is buried under an imposing obelisk in the South Brisbane Cemetery [near to where I live].

What sparked my interest in this other/younger George Gilbert EDMONDS , is that I am looking for any of my GG's brothers: [He could have had 4 brothers according to a USA source.]
Perhaps this younger GG could have been a son ie. a nephew of my GG!!

I am not suggesting that the 2 GGEs are the same person!
!Even I could not respond to such an age differential!

Back to the point .....
I have not been able to confirm my GG's B&D because apparently, there was an error in recording his 'Father's Name' on his Death Certificate. His own name was inserted against that query. [Perhaps his obedient wife called him 'father'!!]
The apparent error has been confirmed by the Qld. Archives.

Furthermore, there were no Births recorded in Wexford in 1828.
Therefore I have had to search for and rely on family anecdotes.
Hence, if the younger GGE is a nephew, I can persue his family for further information.
AND/OR identify and search official records.

Is that logical?

Thank you P for once again questioning my suppositions.

Crabby
Hope you had a Merry Christmas, as did we, and a happy and prosperous New Year!

I mistook the surname to be WARREN, not PIERCE.
Warren is a location in Victoria!
Ipswich is a locality in Queensland

Ipswich is a location in Queensland!
My father was born in this Ipswich on 28 December 1898; but, it does not appear to be the Ipswich in Posting #3

Up to this Response I was a little confused.

Overall response -
I began by chasing the possibility of the younger George Gilbert EDMONDS being a nephew of my George Gilbert EDMONDS.  Unfortunately from the responses I have not been able to tie the younger to any particular line.

For the record, the amount of EDMONDS research that I have done is shown in the following -
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/edmonds/pats
some 2000 persons!!!

I am extremely greateful for the responses to my Post, but, at the moment it does not clarify th issue I hoped for.
ie.  That the EDMONDS parent of the younger George Gilbert EDMONDS may have come from Wexford.

Thank you for your research and responses

G'day

In my initial posting, I was attempting to find the parentage of a George Gilbert EDMONDS b abt 1870 in Suffolk:
However, we appear to be mixed up by the duplication of locality names.

My father's pedigree is -
Harold George Vivian EDMONDS b 28.12.1898 Ipswich Australia
son of
George Washington EDMONDS b 9.05.1865 South Brisbane Australia
son of
George Gilbert EDMONDS b bet 1825-1833 possibly Wexford IRE.

All were married in Australia!

Thanks for your continued interest.

Hi Crabby,

What are your thoughts regarding nanny jan's George Gilbert Edmonds birth rego March Quarter 1875 Camberwell 1d  727 ?

The Registration District of Camberwell in those days contained parts of London and Surrey, does the fact that he was born in the nowadays Greater London area rule him out of the equation?

Regards and a happy new year to all.

Hi Crabby, and a Happy New year to you, the confusion lies in the above post, you state you are looking for the parentage of a George Gilbert Edmonds born abt 1870 SUFFOLK, is this in the UK or Australia? ie where does the knowledge of a potential father b c 1870 Suffolk in the UK, departing from the UK to Australia eminate from?
