James and Jessie (nee Allan Scott) Lockhart emigrated with sons James and Allen to Canada (province unknown) between 1882 and 1887 and then to the USA where daughter Mabel was born. They returned to Canada living in Toronto until Jessie died. I have records for everything but immigration. Have searched passenger lists, ship lists, Ellis Island records - can't find any of the four. Stumped!
-
Do you have birth dates or at least ages for each family member at the time they emigrated? And where did they originally emigrate from?

have looked through Family search.
Also Worldconnect
Lots of Lockharts, but no Jessie.
Need a date!
-
James was born 25 Dec 1853 in Musselburgh, Midlothian, Scotland
Jessie was born about 1860 in Edinburgh - I think her middle name was Allan and her last name Scott.
They married 1878 in Leith South, Midlothian, Scotland
first born son James was born April 1879 in Leith - I have been able to trace him as an adult living in Canada and have visited his grave (I live in Canada although born in Scotland)
Second son Peter Allan was born Jun 1882 in Leith.
Daughter Mabel's birth 4 Feb 1887 in Brooklyn New York
I'm assuming that they emigrated from Scotland - probably Glasgow but they could have sailed from and English port.

Hi hiszafer,
Have you looked at records for Pier 21?

It would appear that data prior to 1925 is not available online or am I incorrect?
-
There is passenger data from 1865 onwards - however not everything is indexed.
(there do exist some passenger records before 1865 but that's the date from when comprehensive passenger lists start).

- look here under "Immigration and Citizenship"
Another problem: on some lists of this time you will find people listed with only initials or just as, e.g. "Mrs Lockhart".
Which US/Canadian censuses do you have the family on?
-
In 1881 he is on Scottish census
Haven't found him on 1891 Canadian census but he married again as a widow in Toronto in August 1891 so he may have missed the Canadian census if he was in the US prior to Canadian census.
Can't find him on 1901 Canadian census although I can find his family living at 118 Toronto West, Ward 4
In 1910 he dies - address Robert St, Toronto

Greetings,
Have you looked at USA-Canadian border crossings on Ancestry?

I was just in Anc*** and found a picture of a grave stone, showing James' dates and also an obit. Perhaps the person could contact me?
or not?

That would be my Ancestry tree - Lockharts of Midlothian
