Title: Prowse Of Talbot
Post by: Sani on Friday 09 December 11 00:58 GMT (UK)
Hi All         I am looking for one Henry Prowse who married Eva Bailey in Talbot.    My grandfather was Henry Richard Prowse who marr Gladys Ross, so its not him, but his brother John marr Lydia Bailey. It is said that Lydia came from Adelaide as there is a few Bailey relatives living there but no word on Henry and Eva who would have marr between 1900 and 1920.  Hoping someone can help

Sani,

Perhaps you could explain where the HENRY you are seeking fits in with the other 2 man you mention.

The death of JOHN CHARLES PROWSE who married LYDIA shows this way on the Vic index

PROWSE John Charles
Father William
Mother Marcon Sara  HARRISON
Death Place: GEEL
Age 86
Age Code:
Year1967
Reg Number 17703

The death of HENRY RICHARD PROWSE

PROWSE Henry Richard
Father William John
Mother Sarah Jane  HARRISON
Death Place HEAL
Age 83
Year 1959
Reg Number 27845

There are also deaths of women who appear to be their sisters.

HENRY RICHARD did marry GLADYS MARGARET ROSS and one of their children was a HENRY PROWSE

PROWSE  Hy
Father Hy Richd
Mother Gladys Margt ROSS
Birth Place TALBOT
Year 1908
Reg. Number  7257

If this is the man you are seeking, his marriage would have been much later than the time frame you give though it still does not show up to my eyes.

OK. I have just revised the previous thread (thanks DEBRA) to which JANET666 and I contributed last year.

I feel quite confused by your  request at this point and will be best to leave the research to others I think.

Henry and Eva who would have marr between 1900 and 1920.  Hoping someone can help SANI

Why would you think a man born in 1908 would marry between 1900 and 1920?

Sue

Sorry  I am probably not explaining myself too well. Lets see if I can clarify myself a bit.
There appears to be two Henry Prowse' and I am trying to fit them together if possible. My grand-parents were Henry Richard Prowse and Gladys Margaret Ross married in 1905 and were the parents of Henry Prowse born 1908( he married Alice Vale in the 1940's) My grandfather's brother John Charles Prowse marr Lydia Ellen Bailey in 1920 ( she was born 1888) We know her sister was Eva Bailey whom we think married the other Henry Prowse and they both would have been born in the 1880's - 90's. As far as we can tell, the three couples were married in Talbot and were very friendly and attended family functions together.
If I try to go further into the tree, I'll end up confusing you more. Hope you can understand what I'm trying to do.

Hi Val,

Information gathered in the previous thread shows that there is no record of Lydia having a sister named Eva.  Her cousins were Eva and Henry BAILEY (brother and sister) who show on electoral rolls as living together at Talbot.  Eva never married and died in 1970.  There is also no record of an Eva BAILEY marrying a Henry PROWSE.

Have you asked surviving family what they know about Lydia's cousins Henry and Eva?  Lydia appears to have been close to them and I think you need to clarify whether or not your family have confused the relationships.

Hi Debra     It was Lydia's grand-daughter who gave me the info and I tried to help her but got so confused that it drove me to distraction. That's why I thought to seek help in the hope that a new contact could be found, as it doesn't look like I'm going to get anywhere with the records. I might just have to forget about them.  Thank you all for trying to help me.

Sani,

There is this family - I wonder if the surnames have been mixed up.

There is this family also at Nuggerty Gully in 1914

BAILEY Eva May, Home Duties
BAILEY Henry, Woodcutter
BAILEY Henry Jnr, Woodcutter
BAILEY Lydia Ellen, Homse Duties

Eva, Henry and Henry jnr are still there in 1919

Hi tedscout,

Siblings Henry and Eva BAILEY lived together their whole lives at Talbot until Henry's death in 1966.  Eva continued to live at Railway Street, Talbot until her death in 1970.

We have gone through all of this in a previous post.  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,524502.0.html

Thanks Debra,

I figured that one out after I posted it. I'm beginning to think there wasn't an Eva Bailley marrying a Henry Prowse.

I am wondering if Sani read all the her previous threads.

There was no response to the last lot of info that was posted.

I thought we had cleared up the confusion.

Cheers

Hi tedscout     Re 1909 Role.  Sarah Jane Prowse (nee Harrison) was the mother of Frederick,Henry (my grandfather)James and John. She had 12 children altogether. Husband William John is buried at Amhurst cemetery, Talbot. Sarah came down to Geelong where 6 of her children lived and is buried in Geelong.
Re 1924 Role.   John married Lydia Ellen Bailey  1920 and moved to Geelong. Arthur is another son and Jean Robinson is her daughter-in-law (wife of James Robert).
Lydia Bailey was b 1888 possibly in Adelaide SA as the family apparently lived there for some time and some still do.
The family seem to think Eva May married another Henry Prowse, but from what I gather now, she never married. and where we thought she was a sister to Lydia, now appears she was a cousin. It was this Henry Prowse that I was trying to trace but with no luck I'm afraid.
But thanks to all who have tried to help me        Val

My appologies and Thanks to everyone who has tried to help me find this elusive Henry Prowse as the family are sure he is part of my family. I put this up again in hope that someone new may see it and be able to help. I did not intend to cause any ill feelings.   I will now put Henry into  my file with other family stories that I can't verify

Thanks Again to all who tried to help

Val there are no ill feelings..... I can only speak for myself and I am at a loss to understand why the information posted is not clear to you.  There is no Henry PROWSE married to an Eva May BAILEY.  The surnames in the family stories appear to be incorrect.

We have always been told that Eva marr a Henry Prowse but could never fit him into our family . They were living in Talbot around 1900 - 1910 and  that Eva was a sister to Lydia and Agnes who lived in Adelaide until her death. Some of Lydia and John Prowse's family would go over to her for holidays.
[b]Henry Prowse b 1908 was my mothers brother and he marr Ruby Alice Vale from Diamond Creek , Victoria.[/b] They Lived in Portland , Camperdown and again in Portland where they died 6 weeks apart in the 1980's.       Thank you all for your trouble although it has made more confusion than answers. I think I'll ask around the family again and see if anyone can tell me more or offer more sugestions
                                Val

Firstly your uncle Henry changed his name to Harry

PROWSE Harry

He is listed on all the electoral rolls 1937 to 1977 as Harry with Ruby Alice.

The family seem to think Eva May married another Henry Prowse,

Electoral rolls show Eva May BAILEY living at Talbot with her father Henry and brother Henry.

Deaths for siblings and cousins of Lydia

BAILEY Eva May
Father Henry  Mother Charlotte HOUSE
At Maryborough  77 years  1970  Reg#17630

Buried at Amherst/Talbot Cemetery
BAILEY Eva May   years  Died 31 Jul 1970

A little more electoral roll info that has become available online since your first request.

Australian Electoral Roll
1963
BAILEY Eva May  Railway Terrace Talbot  HD
BAILEY Henry  Railway Terrace Talbot  No occupation

1968
BAILEY Eva May  Railway Terrace Talbot  HD

Family stories are invaluable but unfortunately they are often inaccurate. We have proven some of the information given you to be incorrect.

There is no Henry PROWSE married to an Eva May BAILEY.  Can the family tell you who are the parents of this mysterious Henry PROWSE?   I really think they have confused the surnames of Eva May and Henry BAILEY, cousins of Lydia PROWSE, nee BAILEY,  living at Talbot in the period you mention.

Cheers
