				Hi

Charlotte HAWTIN Daughter  15 Female Newington, Surrey
William HAWTIN Son 13 Male Newington, Surrey

Charlott HAWLIN (sic) Wife Married 57 Female Dealer (Gen) Newington, Kent

Any ideas on what HAWTIN may have been transcribed as?

 Cheers

I have looked at 1871, tried just a child's christian name and parents with no surname, nothing comes up, Hawkin I would have thought would have been a nearest surname but no luck so far

Where do you think the children married?, one might well have married about 1871 give or take a couple of years, that might be a good lead, or they could have been left off census or out when the census man cometh

I've searched every way I can think of for the others but so far no luck - they are probably hiding somewhere in Surrey/Middlesex with my Joseph Childs also lost in 1871 ;D

 Thanks for that.

The oldest child, Charlotte (who was born Charlotte Moore, by her mother's first marriage, but shown as Charlotte Hawtin in the 1861 census), is living in Orb Street, St Mary Newington in the 1871 census. She is shown as the wife of Joseph Belcher (another mystery, as I can't find a record of marriage for the couple).

Joseph Hawtin, who I can't trace in 1871 or 1881, reappears in 1891 in Townley Street, St Mary Newington.

All I have found are a few Hawtin baptisms for the following

 Joseph 03/07/1864
 Benjamin  same date
 parents Joseph and Charlotte
 of 3 Neptune Court
 at St John Walworth

 Emma Louisa bapt 23/04/1856
 born 19/11/1855

 Elizabeth Hannah same bapt date
 born 18/07/1853
 St Peter Walworth

I feel sure they must have been left off census , isn't it annoying

I can't find a cross match marriage Hawtin to Belcher either, not everyone got married, we do assume all our relatives did marry in thepast but sometimes they were very poor and just couldn't afford it, youngsters nowadays think they invented "partners"  :o

While looking for another HAWTIN family in the same area, I found them transcribed as HAUTIN. Have you looked using that variation.
