Hi, Could anyone look up the marriage of William Lee and Elizabeth Marley married 26.06.1827 in Marske. I would like to know the ages of the bride and groom and any witnesses. Or could anyone point me in the right direction to find this information.
Thanks, Hurley. ;)

Hi Mirf, I have looked at this record but dates don't match. My g grandad was Shiel Bell lee, His father was George Lee 1832 Thornhill Dewsbury. He married Elizabeth Marley in Marske in 1827. I can't find a birth for George Lee born to William and Elizabeth in 1832 Dewsbury. I also couldn't find 1841 or 51 census records for George Lee but found the record you mentioned above which would mean William and Elizabeth married in Marske in 1827 and had William in 1828 but then William disappears and George appears. Could it be a name change? The dates are also different I have William born 1878 in Dewsbury but in the record you mention he is born 1801 which is a big difference. That is why I thought the marriage cert might confirm ages.

The 1841 census rounds ages above 15 down to the nearest 5 so age 40 means 40-44. 50 means 50-54.

Thank's for that Andrea. Still 14 yrs is a big jump in age unless it's a missprint.

Are the generations right? Your post does not quite make sense. It is odd for someone born 1778 to not marry until 1827. Is this Marske in Cleveland as per your other post? It is a long way from Dewsbury. Where did you get your information? I wonder if you have muddled two separate families?

I have found the George Lee father of Sheil Bell Lee He marr Elizabeth Bell
at Easington Durham 1852 and yes he came from Dewsbury so I wouldn't
think he was son of William Lee and Elizabeth Marley ???. Looking at 1871 and 1881 they
looked to have 11 Children. hope this is of help. Mirf

John Lee, 30, Shoe M J

What a pity George's age fluctuates with the census years.
Death, Sep qtr 1884
Elizabeth Lee, age 51
Durham, Vol 10a, page 215
Death, Jun qtr 1887
George Lee, age 55
Durham, Vol 10a, page 192
I'm assuming these are their deaths.

Andrea I took over my family tree from my dad after he died. I can't remember wether it is information he had found himself or if it was taken from other Ancestry members who have a family link to us. There are about six tree's on there with the same information. I know George's father was William from his marriage cert. I think I need to retrace my steps and go back to the beginning with George.
Thank's for your interest,
Heather.

Now you have all the census records for George and Elizabeth and their numerous progeny it should be easier. The 1852 marriage that mirf gives you sounds very likely.

Indeed! The 1881 census is interesting as it has a nephew also called Shiel Bell living with them - a year younger, so age 12. His birth is on freebmd too. Presumably Elizabeth's sibling's child?

The bell name comes in when George Lee marries Elizabeth Bell in1852. The shiel name comes from the Shields. Elizabeth Bells father was Shield Bell, his parents being John Bell and Hannah Shield. The Shield and Bell names only link to George Lee when he marries Elizabeth Bell.

I already have the information about George Lee after he marries Elizabeth Bell in 1852. I also have his children. I don't have him in the 1841/51 census. I know from his marriage that his father was William Lee. I don't have a definate place of birth as in each census he is recorded as born in a different place. The places being Balfore??? Yorkshire. Dewsbury Yorkshire and Huddersfield. His birth dates also vary from 1830 to 1834. Have any of you heard of a place in Yorkshire called Balfore? I've googled it with no result. I would hope that if I can find a record for him in 1841 his parents will be on there with him as he would at that time be about 8 yrs old.
