Post by: jeanharris on Tuesday 10 May 05 03:54 BST (UK)
Hi.
Looking for any info on the Bridger family.
Ann Bridger married John Marsh Brighton 1696.Is this a connection to my family tree?
I have a Bridger Marsh born 1729 Lamberhurst Kent.
         Thanks Jean.

Bridger is a VERY common name in Sussex. i've been researchimg for years, mainly in Sussex, and have come across hundreds. My own 'Edmonds' line have a couple of people who married Bridgers.

I would recommend, if you are researching Bridgers, that you remain very focussed on each step as you go, and confirm each person as you find them from as many sources as possible.

But.....dont let me put you off! What is Family History without a challenge!!
Happy hunting.

Not that I know of - though often folk used a mothers maiden name as a second Christian name, so it pops up in that way. For example, I have a John Edmonds who married an Ann Bridger, and their eldest son was called John Bridger Edmonds. He never married and had no children, and the Bridger bit ended there.

Thanks again.
The name Bridger runs though my family tree.Bridger Marsh born 1729 Lamberhurst Kent married Hannah Giles in 1760 and had sons called Bridger and Giles.
With your info maybe the link I found is connected to my tree!
               Regards Jean.

Hi Jean,
I was helping a lady from Canada recently, looking for a BRIDGER Champion in Sussex, so the name could be used as as first name.
The surname BRIDGER, when looked up in the Sussex Marriage Index, goes off the scale, with more than 500 registered.  Looking at the Bridger name on the distribution map, they are all over Sussex!
I looked on the index for the marriage of Ann Bridger & John Marsh in Brighton & was surprised to find it's not there.  Is your information correct?

Jane

Yes my info is correct but the spelling is Ann Bidger without the R and John Mersh not Marsh! With that spelling you will find it!
The first name Bridger must come from a surname,as there are many Bridgers in Sussex.
                 Regards Jean.

Hi SJ.
Maybe my Ann Bridger was a sister of Martha? As she married 1698 in Brighton.I also have an ? Agnis Bridger who married William Morris Lodsworth 1567 and then a Mary Morris who married John Marsh 1662 Edburton, their son John married Ann Bridger.
Must be a connection some where!
I think John and Ann son Thomas was my Bridger Marsh's father but cannot find the link!
Regards Jean Harris nee Marsh,Perth Australia.

yes that would be great! i have details of martha and george's children (7) but with the line then changing into coulton it means i have no other details of any bridger's
i know that george was buried 23/7/1719 so martha must have been around the same age.

i have so many lost links like that for this area!
i'll have to try and put requests out for them all when i can....i only joined rootschat 5 mins ago - thankyou for your speedy responce...it really spurns me on to uncover more! - happy hunting

Thanks Barry for all your help.I am a member of the SFHS,and have asked them without any luck.I also have a friend who have looked at all the baptism for Sussex for me same results! But could ask again as that was afew months ago.
I think if he was baptised it may have been in Kent, thats were he married 1760(Lamberhurst)I always thought you had to be baptised to marry in church.
I have only been back in Perth 3 week after a trip to UK(no time for family reseach!)Will now get back to reseaching Bridger's baptism in Kent.
             Thanks Jean.
