Title: Death on the Holyhead .Breakwater
Post by: Trebrys on Wednesday 30 November 11 15:12 GMT (UK)
My great-great-grandfather was killed while building the breakwater at Holyhead. I've been told that only a handful were killed doing so. Would anyone know how I could find information on this?

His surname would have been Roberts.......and his first name possibly Robert. He would have come from the area around Mynydd Parys / Pensarn.

A shot in the dark, but any help would be appreciated.

Afternoon - I found this interesting article about the construction but it doesn't mention any deaths - in fact it stresses how much care was taken by the contractors to make the site safe : -

Many thanks for your ready response.

It mentions that 20 were killed between 1849-1852 in fact. I have no idea when my ancestor was killed and I suppose only a trawl through old local newspapers could help me answer the question.  :(

Thanks again.

Have you tried contacting Holyhead Maritme Museum? They might have some info. Good luck  :)
