Title: Gibbards of Inverness
Post by: mumphjam on Tuesday 29 November 11 18:22 GMT (UK)
I am researching the Gibbards, father William Edward was an army man. Originally in the Royal Garrison Artillery, stationed in India, Burma perhaps Gibralter, etc. Settled in Inverness, presumably when his army service finished, and was a Barracks Warden (which is?).
Died about 1971, with perhaps five children (who are they). Trying to find out children's names but need census or voter lists etc. Any details gratefully received, especially William Edward's Army record.

Can you include some information on his birthyear?  How old was he when he died?

Where was he born? You only say he settled in Inverness - not whether he was actually born there.

Without a birthyear or birthplace we have no way of knowing the right person

If he was born between 1901-1911 - you can look for him on the 1911 census which is pay per view on both the following sites

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

A copy of his death cert will give his wife's name and maiden name which will enable you to trace his marriage   www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Depending on where the children were born -  the same website will enable you to trace them

As the children are probably still living - no details of them can be posted here

Thank you for the contact:- William Edward Gibbard (Ted) born Bloxham, Oxfordshire on 8/3/1891. Married Olive Rose Grant of Rugby, Warwickshire possibly in 1917 at Daventry, (but I need to confirm this by obtaining the marriage certificate). He joined the army, when I don't know, but appears to have had children whilst abroard on service, (again to be confirmed). He died in Raigmore Hospital 28/11/1971.
