Dear All,
Can anyone help me with what happened to:
ROBERT ARMSTRONG born 22 June 1826, Baptised 14 June 1829, to JOHN Armstrong, Priorhill, and his spouse ISABELLA LITTLE. Baptised at Canonbie.
There are quite a few Roberts within a few years of this date but I just can not find out about this one and would like to know if he died young or later or if he maybe emigrated.
I just can't find anything that seems right. ???
Grateful for any information as I am still trying to find the father of my Great Grandmother Agnes Jackson (Armstrong) b1855 whose father was a Robert Armstrong and think this one is a likely contender!!!
I have ruled out:-
Robert Armstrong born Torcoon in 1834 - he emigrated. Father Robert mother Agnes
Robert Armstrong born Birnie 1830 - he died. He was a Mason. Father John mother Margaret Scoon.
Robert Armstrong born Castleton 1830 - he was a shoemaker and died 1883 single. I don't think he would be classed as a Agricultural Servant.
Judy :)
This is a thread I posted before on another Robert - the one from Torcoon which I have now discounted

Have also PROVISIONALY ruled out a Robert Armstrong bap 24 May1830 at Canonbie Father James Armstrong, mother probably Margaret Elliot as he married Margaret Kerr in 1851 and appears to have emigrated to Canada in 1853 and my Gt Grandmother must have been conceived in 1854.
I have got this information from the Public Trees on Ancestry and find them often not quite correct and some of them have conflicting sources so that is why I have not ruled him out completely yet.
If anyone has more info on him it may be useful
Thanks
Judy

Hi John,
That is a really good website but have already checked it. However I did just run through it again - for just in case but didn't find him.

Don't know if this will help you Judy, Here's something i wrote down a while ago....
Armstrong's of Priorhill.
Robert Armstrong 1750-1825, spouse Jane Armstrong 1759-1826. Robert son of above ??? - 1783. Son's of Robert [junior]:- William 1780 -1790 and John 1772 -1822 died Iniskillen, Ireland.

Hi Bewcastle,
Thanks for those.
I am wondering if there was more than one armstrong family at Priorhill and if the one I am after were labourers there and then moved around with their work as Ag Labs.
As, although Robert, his brother Thomas & sister Isabella were all baptised on the same day in July 1829 at Prior Hill, then in the census's they were at other places.
1841 they were at Chapel Hills near Torcoon The family without Robert!
In 1851 the family, without Robert again and with out their father as he had died were at 'New Wood Head' Canonbie.
So I wonder where this Robert was in these census's.

I have a Robert Armstrong born 22.6.1826 at Priorhill, Canonbie to John Armstrong born 16.12.1797 at Canonbie - no date of death, and Isabella Little born 1797 and died 1857.They had 6 other children. Have no further information about this family. Robert is my half 2nd cousin twice removed and is linked to the Armstrongs of Garden of Glenzier and Glenzier Hall, Canonbie. That is as near as you will get to a brick wall.

Wonder if he emigrated.

Hi Boswells,
I have started to look for my Robert Armstrong and was just wondering if you ever got any further with your Robert Armstrong of Priorhill or any of the other Armstrongs of Priorhill? As you never know they may be one and the same Robert as the one I am looking for.
If anyone has researched this family of John Armstrong & Isabella Little I would be very pleased to have any information to try & link up.
Thank you
Best
Wishes,
Judy
