I'm looking for more information on Edward and Cecily O'Donnell recorded in the 1901 census at Meencannard (Rutland, Donegal). Also his mother Mary 70 who lived with them at the time.
I've no idea what Cecily's maiden name was so find it hard to trace them. If anyone could find more inforamtion of Parents, Siblings, addresses etc. :)
Thank you for any help.

The problem with a surname like O'Donnell is that it is extremely common in Co. Donegal, which makes a search very difficult.. there are twelve different household with that surname listed in that one townland.
to assist any searching - these look like the census returns :
O'Donnell household - 1901 (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Rutland/Meencannard/1179407/)
O'Donnell household - 1911 (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Rutland/Meenbannad/489728/)
usually the best place to start is with the birth for one of the children to establish the wife's maiden name, but most of the children's name are very common also... maybe Dennis or Daniel would be a little less frequent ?

four Dennis O'Donnell birth registered between 1904-1906 in the district which covers Meencannard / Meenbannad - Glenties :
see : Dennis O'Donnell (https://www.familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3Adennis~%20%2Bsurname%3Ao%27donnell~%20%2Bbirth_place%3AGlenties~%20%2Bbirth_year%3A1904-1906~&collection_id=1408347)
and 8 Daniel's between 1902-1904
the most precise age is that for daughter Mary, as her age is listed as 7 months on the 1901 return. So born about the end of September, beginning of October 1900 (census was 31st March).
There is one Mary O'Donnell birth listed during Jul-Sep, but another 3 during Oct-Dec. See link (https://www.familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3AMary~%20%2Bsurname%3Ao%27donnell~%20%2Bbirth_place%3AGlenties~%20%2Bbirth_year%3A1900-1900&collection_id=1408347)

Thank you for your searches and links. I have the 1901 and 1911 Census but that is all. My grandmother was born later in 1914 on 1 January, her name was Rose.
Following the same links I don't see her listed.

Hi, I think I see the marriage of Edward and Cicely registered Dungloe (No2) CP 1899 Jan - Mar Quarter
Edward O'Donnell = Cecilia Boyle, Edwards fathers name was Daniel, Cicely/Cecila's father recorded as Shane
Surname confirmed against birth of daughter Mary in 1900
For the birth of daughter Hannah in 1901 mother is recorded as Sheela? Boyle
For son Denis birth in 1906 mother is recorded as Cecily, all births recorded Dungloe (No2) CP

Oh that's brilliant, thank you all for your help. Joe, I wonder if Sheila is just a missprint. The names are similar.

From the site mentioned above the birth of an Edward Sweeney from 1865 would seem to fit
O’Donnell
Edward
14/01/65
Father: Daniel O’Donnell
Mother: Mary Sweeney
Meenbannad
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/dungloebtho1.htm
And perhaps Cicelys birth from same database
Boyle
Cicely
20/11/75
John Boyle
Hannah Ward
Acres
Shane/Sean/John are basically forms of the same name so this may be her, also she named one of her children Hannah
The townlands of Meenbannad and (Roshin) Acres were only a mile or 2 apart

If you mean Cecily/Sheila- Sile, Sheila, Sheelagh, etc. are Irish forms of the Latin name Cecilia (meaning 'musical') and Cecily is another variation of Cecilia.

I see Rose O'Donnell birth recorded 1914, Dungloe CP No2, Father Ned O'Donnell, mother Cecily Boyle (Ned is a shortened form of Edward)
