Title: Maddens/Mcauleys/rossborough/mcveys
Post by: joanlawrie on Sunday 27 November 11 11:59 GMT (UK)
I have hit the proverbial brick wall concerning all my names. I have found some of the maddens namely Justin in the census, however I do have a query regarding the Justin and Justain, they are both born around the same time and both have sons called after them, however one is noted as Catholic and the other Roman Catholic is there a difference ?
I also have a Jeannie/Jennie who was the daughter of Letitia Rossborough and William Charles Mcauley, however I cannot find a marriage for them. There is a marriage for William in 1917 and a death for Letitia in 1919, I did find out there was a flu epidemic.
Can anybody out there help me please, I have picked up Justin in Glasgow where he married Jeannie Mcauley in 1925.
Was illegitimacy rife in Ireland as it seems to be in Glasgow.

In this context Catholic and Roman Catholic would relate to the same denomination.

Not quite sure what details exactly you are looking for... is it the marriage of  Letitia and William or Justin ?
Can you post details of the couple on the census returns and any clues you have about the timeline...

William Charles Mcauley and Letitia Mcauley nee Rosborough are down as Jeannies parents, Jeannie was born around 1903/4, I am looking for a marriage certificate for Wm and Letitia. I do know that they are not married in the 1911 census. But Wm got married in 1917 and I am looking for who he actually married.
I have the Maddens in the 1901 and 1911 census however if you look at both censuses there are quite a few differences http://sortedbyname.com/pages/m100117.html.
My timeline is from around 1864 into 1930

....

Am I reading that correct.. William and Letitia married after 1911 but before 1917, but their daughter Jeannie was born in 1903 or 1904 ?

Where was Jeannie born and where are William, Letitia and Jeannie on the 1911 census ?

is this the possible marriage for William on the BMD Index ?

  Name: William Charles McAuley
  Registration district:   Larne
  Event type: Marriage
Quarter and year:   Apr - Jun 1917
  Volume : 1 / Page: 757

There seems to be two other marriages listed during 1917 without the middle name  - one in Dublin, and one in Londonderry

Checked that 1917 Larne marriage - the two potential cross matches for the bride of that marriage I see on the BMD Index are : Annie Black & Kate Darragh

Thanks for that, I have that marriage it is who he married that I really wanted to know, as his daughter has him married to Letitia Rosborough and I really want to know if this is fact or a piece of wishful thinking on Jeannies behalf.

You would have to buy the cert from the GRO to be sure who that William married - but the two names I posted are they only cross matches I see. Nothing in that year/quarter and district for the firstname Letitia or the surname Rosborough.

I have Letitia she was with her mother and possibly her daughter who has her fathers second name. I actually dont think that they got married :o. I found 1 marriage for wm in Larne to a Kate.
At the moment, I will just let the Irish side rest and see if I can find the rest of the family who ended up in Scotland.
Thanks for your help.

Ok, my Justins father was called John however Justin was born in 1864, the only way that would fit would be if your John was born before Justin by a few years and his father was called John.
