Can anyone help me please, I am researching a red cross nurse who i believe lived at the Bury Godlington called Dorothy E Griffith-Jones. The family name was changed from Jones by deed poll after her father died in the late 1890's early 1900's. I also believe she was working at the racecourse hospital in Cheltenham. I am also looking for any information or newspaper reports on Dorothy and her immediate family.

Dorothy E Griffith-Jones died Apr-Jun 1962, aged 84, Cheltenham
Her address in 1959-1962 was Flat 1, Rothesay Mansions, Albert Rd, Cheltenham

Thanks Dazey,
Thanks for the address, very helpful, I am aware of the link you sent me, i am lucky enough to have her medals that are advertised in the list. :)

Her father (Griffith Jones) was still alive for the 1901 census. Do you have the details?
-
Despite what the auction catalogue has, I imagine it should be Goldington Bury
-
Oh yes, the next lot, tells you that her father died in 1908.
According to the National Probate Calendar he left over £35k. Probate went to his widow (Edith Jane Jones) Frederick Darcy Jones (brewery director) and Joseph Sim Earle esq.

VCH Bedfordshire, Goldington published 1912 at http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=42415 has this to say about Goldington Bury
"On the right of the Green is Goldington Bury, a large but severe late 18th-century mansion, which stands in well-wooded grounds of over 40 acres. It belongs to Colonel Shuttleworth, of Old Warden Park, Biggleswade, and was till lately occupied by Mr. Griffith Jones."
It appears that the Shuttleworths owned the Bury in 1877, so it seems as though the Griffith-Jones were tenants

Edith Jane Griffith-Jones of Goldington, Marle Hill, Cheltenham died 8 May 1940. Probate to Frederick Darcy Griffith-Jones, transport contractor, Dorothy Edith Griffith-Jones, spinster, and Denys Paul Campbell Franks, retired underwriter.

Looks like the family had added the Griffith to their surname by 1911 as Edith Jane & Dorothy Edith were living in Odiham in Hampshire.

Thanks again Dazey, picture of Dorothy's brother is very interesting as i have a picture of who i believe to be her Nephew, Philip P Griffith-Jones and the family resemblance is very apparent.
-
I see the next lot in the auction included a photo of Dorothy. What a pity you didn't get to see it.
-
I know, i bought the medals after the auction finished from a dealer and started to search for any information on Dorothy, was gutted when i found the auction house that sold all the family history, i would have loved have kept it all together. I hate to see family history being broke up like that. But never mind, the search goes on. ;)

I'm currently looking for information on the birth family of Reginald Thomas Jones, born in Goldington in 1910, and adopted by 1911 by my 1st cousin 4x times removed, Florence Emily Brealey and her husband Percy Frederick Nichols.
Having searched all 'Jones' records for the 1901 and 1911 censuses, I can only find 2 Jones families.
One of the families was Griffith Jones family, and I have been looking for further information on them and found this link.

Do you have this birth certificate as it should name his mother. The GRO index shows no maiden name
