Wonder if anyone can help me please? I am trying to find the marriage details of James Connor b1879 Carlow. I know he married an Eleanor Sophia (maiden name not yet known).

 Many thanks
-
Do you know roughly when and were the marriage might have taken place ?

Have you found James and Eleanor on the 1901 and 1911 census returns ?

see :  Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html)

				Hi Shane

Found them in the 1901 Census, no clues about date of marriage unfortunately.
-
where are they in 1901 ?

The 1911 return would give the number of years married which helps narrow down the search.

where were their children born ?

Sorry I should have said I have them on the 1911 census NOT 1901 ....senior moment!!

In the 1911 census they are living at 26 Montgomery St Carlow, they had three children:-

Eleanor Elizabeth Roche Connor b1907 Carlow
 Eileen Bertha Connor b1909 Carlow
Rhona Parker Connor no dob shown on census form b Carlow.

I am over the water from you in Lancashire and may not have access to some of your Irish Data bases for marriage records.

 Many thanks

The BMD Index is free on the FamilySearch website - see the introduction topic above.

1911 census link for reference : Connor household (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Carlow/Carlow_Urban/Montgomery_Street/912551/)

James and Eleanor married 5 years - so c1906, all the family born 'Carlow', which suggests possibly the town rather than  county.

Rhona's age appears to be 10 months.

sorry I forgot to mention there was no mention of number of years marriage on the copy of the census document I used.

You have to select the 'Show all information' option to see the full details. It's also a good idea to view the actual form to verify the details - see the section below labelled 'View census images / Household Return (Form A)'

The best match I've found so far is for the birth of the oldest child. Luckily quite a distinctive name :

 Name: Eleonore Elizabeth Roche Connor
 Registration district: Carlow
 Event type: Birth
 Quarter and year: Jan-Mar 1907
 Volume: 3 / Page: 314

A cert would give more details - such as date and place of birth, father's occupation, mother full name etc.

see : Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,433040.0.html)

This look like it could be the family of James on the 1901 return. No sign of him, but his brother Abner E. is listed with the right age and denomination. This return states he was born in Queen's County (Laois). Parts of Carlow town are in Co. Laois

Thanks, I have checked my research and this is definately the right family. Looks like I shall have to invest in the purchase of a certificate from the GRO to get at Sophia's maiden name!

 Many thanks for your help.

I'm not seeing any good matches for the marriage of James and Eleanor at the moment .. also haven't found any sign of her on 1901 return...

Knowing her maiden name should make the marriage search easier

Wow Tara....thank you ever so much for this info....gone into overload. :) I am researching this line for a family member in Canada and really struggled with access and info on the Irish BMD records. I need to put things into order and on her tree. I reckon you may have given me at least another three generations here.

 BIG THANK YOU.
