Title: Todhunter/Scott - Greystoke, Penrith

I am looking for any information on the couple John TODHUNTER and Esther SCOTT who were married 9 Jun 1757 Greystoke.

According to the IGI, several possible birthdate matches came up for each, so there are several similar people in the area at the same time.

I know of three of their children:
James b. 1761
Mary b.1763
Isaac b. 1768

(Mary went on to marry William ELLIOT in Greystoke, 1783.)

John TODHUNTER
b. cir 1722
d. 1794
Esther SCOTT
b. cir 1725
d. 1805

It is several years ago that I did some research on this family for a friend. Unfortunately I handed over all the research details to them but I am sure the family history is mainly contained in Quakers Records, copies of which are in Carlisle Archive Centre, Lady Gillford's House, Carlisle

I just came across your posting, having done a search for details of John Todhunter and Esther Scott, to expand on my family tree.
I don't have a birth date etc for John as yet, but Esther was born 1 Nov 1725 and married John 9 June 1757 at Greystoke.
Their children:
James born 10 Sept 1761 and married Mary Ann Wilson 29 April 1789 Greystoke; Mary bap 26 Oct 1763 Greystoke; George bap 3 May 1766 Greystoke; Isaac bap 31 December 1768 Greystoke; Ann no birthdate as yet, married .......Courtlan no date.
My ancestors are John and Esther's son James, who married Mary.

Thank you for adding details to the family :)

James's sister Mary is my 6xg-grandmother.

I have a note to myself that, as it ties-in with the birth date for Esther Scott you found, is likely a great match:
christened: 7 Nov 1725 Greystoke
father: John Scott

Hopefully this may help us get back further :)

My 5th great grandmother was Esther Scott.  I have been able to get back to Thomas Todhunter (b1663) who married Sarah Slee (m1683). 

Does anyone have any information before Thomas Todhunter?
