Hello, I wonder if anybody maybe able to help me find my great x 5 grandparents marriage. My great x 4 grandfather William James was baptised 24 Nov 1794 at Ockbrook, Derbyshire, the son of John and Elizabeth. I thought that I had located John James and Elizabeth's marraige as the igi's stated that a John James and Elizabeth Smedley were married at Morley, Derbyshire the 11 Aug 1782. I wrote to Derbyshire Record Office for a photocopy of this marraige record, and it turns out to be a marraige between a John Turner and Elizabeth Smedley, and not John James. I have re checked the igi's, and it turns out that there are 2 records for an Elizabeth Smedley who was married at Morley 11 Aug 1782, to a John Turner and a John James. Any ideas ?
Many thanks.

Hi Millee
Both the Phillimore's marriage index and Freereg also have it as Turner. I notice the souce of the information for John James is from the Morley BT's so maybe it would be worth checking them to see what they say. It could be a transcription error on the IGI.
Have you tried to eliminate John Turner & Elizabeth by checking where their children were born?
