Post by: kallie50 on Saturday 19 November 11 05:18 GMT (UK)
Hello

Does anyone have any information / photos etc of Maitland Steam laundry that they can share?.  I think it was in Elgin Street.  My grandmother worked there around 1918

Any help is most appreciated

regards
Lynne

I'd contact the Maitland District Gen.Soc. (used to be called Maitland FH Circle) who may be able to help you.  Their website is:  http://www.mdgs.org.au/

Kallie, if you don't get all you want there why not ask the Maitland Library?

Maitland Steam Laundry 1914 was at 198 High Street. - Still functions as a drycleaners at that address.

Previously near Long Bridge where it began around 1904

(near the end of the 2nd page)

Opened in 1902 in High St (old brewery) by Alfred E Hyndes
