Title: O'Malley from Islandeady
Post by: Blancsanglier on Thursday 17 November 11 02:55 GMT (UK)
Can anyone help me with Catherine OMalley (b1851/2/3 (or Peter or Charles) child of Bridget Walsh and John OMalley, please? They came from Islandeady, Co.Mayo. Catherine married Michael Mackin but that was in about 1875 when they had settled in Wolverhampton, Staffs.

Hi,
My ancestor is Annie O Malley born 1851 in Islandeady, Mayo and her mother was Catherine Walsh.
There is a letter which reads to my dear sister from Bridget O Malley.
Could be the same woman? Catherine lived in Cheshire we think. Have you done your dna?

Unfortunately the OP (Blancsanglier) hasn't been back since October 2014 but hopefully if his/her e-mail is still current he/she will get a notification of your post, and will hopefully return.

If you make at least one more post (just say Hi etc), you can use the Personal Message (PM) system to contact the OP and exchange personal data, such as e-mail address.

Have a look at  https://www.rootschat.com/help/pms.php

Hi. My cousin is OMalley from Islandeady and she lives in the family home.    There was a programme on UK tv  "Who do you think you are?" now on youtube,  where Julie Walters, a famous British Actress traces her roots back to her mother's home,   my cousins house.
If you are still looking for info I am happy to help if possible but watch the video on YouTube it is fabulous.

Thank you
I watched the Julie Walters episod, thanks for that. It's great information. The right resources and finances to do it really help to pinpoint these records and information.
We are still trying to pinpoint our ancestors in the area. Derrycourane, Islandeady is our ancestor Catherine Walshs area. Her illegitimate daughter Annie O' Malley born 1850 to a Charles O Malley is our mystery. Trying to find which O'Malleys. I know the answer is out there 😎

Also a photo of, who we think is Annie O Malley, probably an engagement photo in Philadelphia circa 1878..she married John Ryder of Castlebar

And a photo which reads ' To my dear sister Catherine Welsh from Bridget O Mally'
So Annie's aunt married an O Mally too.
The people in the photo are either Bridget and husband or Walsh parents?

Two lines of Malleys to investigate for living descendants.

Yes that's her! In a newspaper announcement for her marriage it says Annie O'Malley of Philadelphia so we don't know if she was raised there or moved there as an adult.
Her mother Catherine is with them in the UK census do did they both move to  Chester after Annie's birth? So many questions before her marriage to John

We also think Cawleys were cousins as a letter to Annie reads ' Dear cousin' from a Cawley man in the US and her sons went out to an Anthony Cawley in Boston.
The Walsh connection perhaps?

AK101,

You might be interested in the location of Newtown in Castlebar from the MapGenie 25 Inch map recorded between 1897-1913, and where your ancestors lived. Pan to the right for the centre of Castlebar.
