Title: Hughes. Salford-West Derby
Post by: yosser on Wednesday 16 November 11 21:32 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find out when my grandfather, Arthur Llewellyn Hughes moved from the Broughton Salford area to West Derby Liverpool. During this time frame a male child was born and died. I am trying to find a name for this child, if I could pinpoint the approximate date the family moved, this would lower the possible combinations I would need to research.
I have tried a shot gun approach and obtained some birth certificates, using ancestor’s names to no avail.

Arthur Llewellyn Hughes married Jane Beard April 1893 in Broughton, Salford.

Arthur, born Dec Qtr. Salford 1993.
Walter, born West Derby Aug 1898
James,   born Jan Qtr.1901 died Sep Qtr. 1901 West Derby.

I have all the other children dated ok and the censuses, on the 1911 census it mentions at that time she had 9 children 7 living.

Any suggestions or advice would be most welcome.

Hi,

www.familysearch.org has the baptism of a John Hughes with parents Arthur Llewellyn and Jane Hughes on the 5th May, 1897 which  just states "Lancashire"  ::).   I have just checked the film number and it is for either:
St. Bede's Church, Toxteth Park, 1882-1917 or
St. Bridget's Church, Wavertree, 1872-1902

Cheers Dotty, I should have checked first before posting.  The LDS are noted for being directionally challenged at times ::)

Excellent, many thanks for this information, when I think of the hours I have spent trying to figure this one out and given up.

There may be an explanation the name of the child was down as Arthur but then it was crossed out and John inserted perhaps they went to another church because of this.Arthur was a man of many jobs, firstly clerk, then fish dealer, then chemist and then corporation employee

Garstonite and Dotty

Thanks for further input to my query.

St. Bridget’s would be the church; it’s only a few blocks away from where they lived in Nebo Street.

St Bridget's was for many years a chapel of ease to Holy Trinity, not becoming a separate parish until 1901.
