Title: Kezia Woombell
Post by: kazfoster on Monday 14 November 11 21:50 GMT (UK)
Hi All

I have the marriage of a Kezia King to Albert Woombell in Luton in 1897.  She was born in Luton in 1877.
He then remarries in 1905.
According to one family tree she died in 1904, but I can find no trace of this.  It could have been in Luton or in Hampshire or even London.  He seems to move around a lot!

if anyone can help I'd be grateful
thanks
Karen

Welcome to Rootschat

Her birth was registered in Luton in the Dec quarter 1905 vol  3b page 360 (per www.freebmd.org.uk). If you purchase her birth cert at http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ you'll get her parents' names, including her mother's maiden name.

In 1911 she appears to have been living in Luton in the family of W.F.G.Peck 48 b Luton:
J.W.Woombell boarder 40 Married 14 years, 4 children, 3 living, Carman, b Nottingham
Lilly Woombell boarder 13 b Luton
Glaids Woombell boarder 5 b Luton
Winnie Woombell 2 1/2 b Luton

Is JW connected to Albert living in Luton in 1901?
Albert Woombell head marr 24 Coal hawker b Nottingham
Kezia Woombell wife 24 b Luton

And is this JW living in St Pancras in 1901?
John Woombell head marr 30 Coachman b Nottingham
Elizabeth Woombell wife 25 b Luton
If so, where's Lily age 3? What appears to be her birth was registered in Luton in the March quarter 1898 as Edith Lilian L Woombell.

There's a marriage in Luton in the June quarter 1897 where two of the parties on the page are John Webster Woombell and Edith Elizabeth Young. But there are quite a few inconsistencies so to be on the safe side I would still order Ivy's birth certificate

It looks as though they were sisters.
Go to here (the official 1911 census) http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx
Select advanced search
Put Woombell in the surname box
County Bedfordshire
Other members of household, put first name Lilly
search

this will bring up others in the household with Lilly  (Edith L L )

Hi Stephen

Yes, I'm confident that Edith Lilian and Ivy Gladys were sisters and that Ivy Gladys married Eric Maltby. Whilst the sisters seemed to use their middle names rather than their first names I'm sure they were the family in 1911 that I gave you details of in my earlier message, father JW, Lilly and Glaids (sic).

JW and Arthur both living in Luton at various times and both born in Nottingham were brothers.

Hi Stephenm
My maiden name was Womble and the John Webster Woombells go back some way.  I think the eldest sons were for many years called John Webster.  The first one seems to have been born around 1784 in Wellow Notts - Father William Wombwell married Anne Webster.  The spelling has changed a lot - he was listed as Wombwell then.  I have yet to find the missing link with our families but I am fairly sure there will be one somewhere.  My tree is on Ancestry under my user name fostercrew if you are interested.  It might be useful to swap info.

Good luck searching
