Post by: Betty S on Tuesday 08 November 11 06:35 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find any relies. of the above couple ,who married 1922 in Erskine.Renfrew.I think they had 2 girls and a boy, David A Rodger Lawrie. who I think was born around 1923 in Glasgow. His father,  David ,(was born 1894 to Smithia Murdoch & James R Lawrie) and was in th1st World War in the Cameron Highlanders. They lived in "Ardenlea" Drymen Rd Bearsden.
Any info. on this family would be great, as I am related to Jane Stewart Rodger, she would have been my great aunt.

Hi Laniet,
thank you for getting back to me on this family....you say that David is your Mums brother....would that be Sheena or Mureil?
I have found a couple of leads, but haven't received any info. yet.....so heres hoping.
Where are you in NZ, North or South island? We have been over a couple of times and loved it, but didn't know if any relies. were there.....

My mum was Muriel Marion Roger Lawrie dob 22 12 1930 passed away 27 11 1998.
Sheena moved to Oz many years ago I have not met her. There was a family issue i never really got to the bottom of.

David passed away a couple of years before my mum. He has a daughter and two grand children. His wife my aunt is still alive.

I live in Blenheim. I have two children. My son has just gone to the UK he is 19 and my daughter is 16.  I have been here 17 years. I grew up in England. My parents moved down from Bearsden shortly after they were married.

This is a complete fluke as it is my ex husband who is interested in genealogy it was not something that I was particularly interested in but I am starting to understand the attraction when you can actuallycommunicate with relatives!

So what is our relationship?

This is teffific! I am so pleased you replied....you will probably get hooked on family research now....
I am your mums 1st Cuz once removed, according to my Family
Tree Maker.David Lawrie , who owned Ardenlea, married my garndpa youngest sister ,Jane /JeanStewart Rodger.!
I managed to trace Sheena's son to NSW and eventually he replied recently and I have sent him some photos, But he said he doesn't know much about the family, but I hope he replies soon with some info.
Is Blenheim in the South Island? we have friends in (?) Kaipoi, near Canterbury. Were you affected by that rotten earthquake?
My father was William Rodger, son of Robert, who came out to Aus. in 1912. He had met Christina Macleod, from Stoer, Sutherland Highlands, in Glasgow, and proposed, but she turned him down, so he came out to Aus.....he must have kept trying and she came out the following year and they married and had 2 children, my dad, and 6 yrs later , a girl, Hughina Fraser Rodger, known as Una. I only found my cuz Meg about 6yrs ago as the family had split up and I didnt know much about any of them.....Must close running out of space...Betty S

Hi BettyS
This is getting better.  My married name was McLeod so my children are McLeods their ancestry is from Wick would be interesting to see if there is a connection there!

Blenheim is at the top of the south island and we were not affected by the earthquakes.

What is your family situation?

Is Sheena still alive? I understand her husband dies a few years ago

Kind Regards
Laniet

This is getting better by the minute!!!!My Macleods were from a little town near Lochinver, called Clachtoll, which is near Stoer....I don't know of any from Wick, but I certainly shall let you know if I find a connection.
Christina, my grandma, had a sister .also Christina, but called her Tina, she went to Canada and I have traced some relies and met some .There was also a bro called Donald, but I haven't been able to find him or his family, though I do have a photo of his children 3 boys....Christina's  dad was Hector Macleod and his 1st wife was Hughina Fraser. After the first Hughina died, he remarried her cuz, also named Hughina!!!!(Matheson) It took me ages to work it all out and,of course they had a Hughina! This is alll very complicated..I think S heena is still alive.
I might haver to close now, my eyes are playing up at the moment, but I will get back to you tomorrow.....Betty

Hi Betty and Laniet

It is always exciting watching on RootsChat when people make unexpected connections!

As you have seen, personal emails are not allowed on the open forum - simply to protect you all from online/internet abuse etc.

The PM service that aghadowey has linked above is easily accessible - just click on the small green scroll under your usernames to bring up the PM service.

Looks like you have a lot to catch up with  ;) The PM service is also good to exchange personal details, in particular including details of living people.

Good luck with everything.

Monica

I have no idea if you come to this site and will read this, but I remember Ardenlea well as the childhood home of my school friend Jennifer Lawrie. This would have been in the 1960's and 1970's. I have long since lost touch with Jennifer, though I would  be absolutely delighted to know where she is and how she is doing.  Jennifer was an only child.  I remember that she and her parents moved to Bearsden from somewhere in Ayrshire.  I cannot remember her dad's name - possibly David - I  think he was a stockbroker or something in the city and her Mum was Betty/Elizabeth, a doctor.  I remember Aunt Sheena's name as the Australian relative. I have a vague sense of other Lawries in Bearsden who were my friend's aunts and of Muriel being an aunt. I loved the garden at Ardenlea.
