Title: Thurlaston Domestic Service
Post by: Stalbridge on Monday 07 November 11 12:43 GMT (UK)
Can anyone help me to identify a House or property, in or near Thurlaston, that would have employed Domestic Servants about 1900-1930. I know that a female relative of mine (Family name Smith)was in service at this time and should like to find out where.

Domestic service at that time did not mean that your relative worked in a big house necessarily. Many middle class families had domestic servants too, whether a cook, or maid to clean and do the washing. Domestic service was the main employment for most young unmarried women from the lower classes.
