Sorry Debbie, did not realise this had posted.
I have record of William Gillespie Foulis in 1901 and 1911 Canadian census.
Cannot find any record of his Canadian marriage to Edith Alice Haynes or his death in Canada which was why I started the post.

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=NORTH_AMERICA
BC information at the above site gives a death for
William Foulis b. 21 Jan 1865 Scotland s/o Thomas Foulis and Janet Millar on 24 ap 1933 Vancouver.
Edith's death is 19 Sep 1960 and can be found on the same site.
Daughter Janet Edith b. 9 Nov 1895 Calgary, Alberta from her death registration in BC and their son William George Arthur b. 1902 Calgary.
This might indicate that the couple married in Alberta and there is no online genealogy data readily available for Alberta.

This is a pay site
Entering Foulis into the upper right yellow banded search box brings up a listing for 1933 obituary.
This might be worth paying. Some obituaries contain details such as marriage dates.

Thank you very much Debbie.
Have a horrible feeling from the death registration of William Foulis, naming his parents that I have the wrong one, they are both born on the same day, but with year' s difference!
Back to the drawing board.......

Are you saying there are two people named William Foulis with similar birth dates or are they both named William Gillespie Foulis? I did see two Williams listed at the LDS site with similar birth dates - William Gillespie Foulis born 21 Jan 1865 in Orkney (son of Thomas Foulis and Janet Millar) and William Carrick Foulis born 22 Jan 1866 in Edinburgh (son of Robert Foulis and Emily Woolford Moffat). Is the latter your William or is he a different one altogether?

Yes Jacquie the latter is 'my' William Foulis. The problem is the family amended their names, adding names subtracting years. I think that I have found William Foulis in the 1881 census inmate Gilmour St prison, Paisley but again need to check details.
Have been trying to trace the siblings of William Foulis for nearly five years so you can appreciate my disappointment to discover this Canadian William Foulis could be the wrong one. The death notice of William Foulis does not mention his wife who was still alive....
Thank you for you I interest

Have you checked out the William Foulis whose death was registerd in Edmonton, Middlesex? The Free BMD entry indicates it was registered in the 4th quarter of 1899 and that he was 37 at the time of his death (vol 3a, page 280). That's a little bit older than your William but if his age changed from census to census it could be him.
There are other Foulis deaths that were registered in Edmonton including:
Emily Woolford M Foulis - age at death: 64 - 2nd quarter of 1896 - vol 3a, page 194
Robert James Foulis - age at death: 39 - 1st quarter of 1897 - vol 3a, page 205
Elizabeth Rose Foulis (Robert's wife?) - age at death 40 - 4th quarter of 1896 - vol 3a, page 215
which seems to add to the possibility that it could be the correct William who died there.
The National Probate Calendar for England and Wales database at Ancestry mentions a will for Robert James Foulis (surgeon) who died 26 Feb 1897. Probate was granted in London on 14 Jul 1897. Here's a link to the website which explains how you can order a copy of the probate file:
http://www.justice.gov.uk/guidance/courts-and-tribunals/courts/probate/copies-of-grants-wills.htm
Perhaps Robert's will might mention his siblings.

Amazing Jacquie, there are times when you cannot see the wood for the trees!
Will send for death certificate.
Yes Robert James, his wife Rose and mother Emily all died in Edmonton. He had been a doctor in Northumberland but died of TB. Have done a quick search of 1891 census and have only found a William Fowles living in Kent.
The family (apart from those whom were married) disappeared from Scotland and Enland census records, father Robert went to work in NZ, have all his records apart from arrival so cannot check if the family went with him or went elsewhere.
Still looking for william Carrick b 1865 and Mary Ann also noted as Betsy b 1866 both born in Edinburgh.
Thank you for your help, will let you know outcome

I looked for William on the 1891 census for England and Scotland but came up empty. I hope that death for William Foulis in 1899 in Edmonton turns out to be yours so you can close the page on that person.

Just to fill in findings.
Have yesterday found Mary Anne Foulis, named as Marianne Moffat Foulis married Havilland Chepmell in Maryborough, Queensland before returning to England to have three children before returning to Havillands' home of Welland, Niagara, Canada.
Am still looking for William Carrick Foulis and will not give up!! Might be in Australia or Canada.

Update - Have found William Carrick Foulis. His brother Robert James Foulis named him as executor in his will as William Stuart Foulis of 105 Bethnal Green Road, London. When Robert J Foulis died in 1897 William Foulis was removed at his request as executor. William was listed as William Steward Foulis on the Electoral Roll as living at 108 Bethnal Green Road in 1897 and 1898.
Next comes his death 8th November 1905, London County Asylum, Banstead, William Stuart Foulis, aged 37 years, and under occupation 'Unknown' St Marylebone Workhouse.
If anyone can help fill the gaps I would be grateful - William was admitted to Banstead on 12th August 1905, presumably from Marylebone Workhouse but cannot find any records of his admittance. Will post this topic under a separate heading.
