Hi
Can any one help please with John Brown, he can be found on the 1841, HO107, Piece 881, Folio 16, Page 26, with wife Ann & 2 sons Charles & William, he doesn't appear in the 1851 so presumably both he & Ann have died although I have traced Charles & William.
If at all possible I'm looking for his baptism c1780 in Nettlebed or maybe Swyncombe, his marriage to Ann & any other siblings to Charles & William. I'm trying to establish any link with him & my ancestor Henry Brown born c1797 in Swyncombe.
Any info would be much appreciated however small.
Many thanks.

with wife Ann & 2 sons Charles & William
How old were they all in 1841
Have you tried a parent search on the IGI for possible other children?

Hi
Many thanks for replying, sorry, I should have said, John & Ann were both aged 55, Charles was 20 & William 14. I haven't had any luck with the IGI or the new Pilot Search, it's a shame the coverage for Oxon is not as good as Herts. :)

Hello Maddie,
The quality of the Nettlebed and Swycombe microfiches from OXFHS is absolutely abominable, but I had a look for you. I also looked at Bix. Nothing for your Browns, I am afraid. Baptisms, deaths, or marriages. Sorry. That area is particularly fraught with difficulty due to parish and civil boundary changes.

Hi Vicwinann
Thank you very much for checking for me, much appreciated. Another piece of the puzzle that will have to stay unsolved just now. :)

Hi Maddie,
I'm struggling to find John's baptism in or around Nettlebed but I did find these two burials there (Oxon FHS CD):
Mar 27 1842 Anne Browne age 60
Jan 7 1845 John Brown age 62 Union Workhouse
I take it the 1841 census entry just has them both as being born in county?

Hello,
My apologies for missing those two entries. My excuse is that my copy of the fiche is almost unreadable on that page, although I can now just about make it out. I obviously need to order the cd as a fair few of my relatives came from Nettlebed.
Yours

Hi Jill
Thank you for the burials, they do sound possibles, yes, the 1841 just has them born in county. It's a little more info for me to gather. :)
Vicwinann, no problem, don't worry about it. :)
Many thanks again for your help, both of you.

I've found the folowing baptisms in Swyncombe (Oxon FHS CD again):
Jan 8 1781 John Brown s/o James & Martha, buried Jan 13 1781
Dec 16 1781 John Brown s/o James & Martha.
Might this be your man?

Hi again Jill
Yes, that could well be John Brown, the age is certainly about right. Golly, James & Martha didn't hang about, did they. ;)
If it is John from the 1841 then he isn't a sibling of my Henry as Henry's parents were John & Mary but I'm sure he will be connected some where in amongst the Swyncombe Brown's.
Many thanks again for your help, as I said, all info is much appreciated in sorting this lot out.

Hi Maddie,
My Brown's are from Nettlebed/Swyncoombe, think they are the same, I'll have to have a check in my files, My John Brown b 1755, father to Henry and William, John's parents are William and Frances, Williams parents Richard and Elizabeth. If interested please contact. Regards, Carol
