Hi
I am researching a branch on my wife’s side of the family tree with the family name of Clinch. Five brothers were police constables in South Wales. Michael Clinch, born c.1873, in Camolin, Wexford, Ireland, joined the Glamorgan County Police Force in 1894. Edward, born 1866, Wexford joined the force in 1894 and John born 1880, Wexford followed his brothers by joining in 1899. I would appreciate help locating any details on the 1901 census.
Kind Regards, Roy

Hello :)
Glamorgan Record Office have the Glamorgan Constabulary records where you may be able to get information on the Clinch brothers.
When researching my OH's GG Uncle, a Carmarthen Copper, I discovered that Carmarthen RO have old duty books, which are fascinating.
Kind regards

Hi Morgan
I spent the day down at the GRO on Wednesday; managed to get some info from the Registers of the Glamorgan County Constabulary but there were those ****** restictions on Personal Files which prevented retrieving other details. Made a start on the Clinch brothers but need another visit. I don't know if you have experienced the Registers but they are great big heavy books; containing basic details such as date of birth, birthplace, height, colour of hair and eyes, date of joining etc and the information I was after the date and stations served at. All good stuff to help build a picture but as I said other info held back due to rules and regs.
Regards, Roy
-
Thanks once again; we are quitely getting there. A second visit to GRO in Cardiff should reveal more details. Kind regards, Roy

Hello everyone
This is Marvin Clinch in Durhamville, NY. We are very interested in tracing our families roots back to England. My family of 7 grew up in Stockbridge, and I would be glad pass on any information. My grandfather was Richard Clinch, who had a brother Charles who was a minister. I was told 4 brothers traveled here from Kent, England. Hope to hear from a distant relative soon.

This is the first time I've used this site - found it quite by chance thru a very kind person at the Glamorgan Family History Society. As I said previosuly I have info startingwith the parents of these 5 Clinch brothers and the descendants all but 4 of their families. Can't get in touch with Dannemois quickly enough.
Happy researching to all on the list.

Thanks again John for all the info. I'm surprised that I cannot find more info on this family. Still looking for the burial place of their parents Thomas and Catherine Clinch(Hughes) - both died December 1920.

My grandfather was the youngest brother, John Joseph Clinch (1880-1934). He married Margaret Ellen Fulford in Barry, South Wales in 1910 and they had six children, one of home, Desmond Clinch, is still alive (aged 88). My mother was the youngest of the six children and was born in 1929 at Pontlottyn Police Station, South Wales. She died in 2007 aged 78.

Hi John

Roy
-
Roy,
That is just wonderful, many thanks for the photograph. Another question, can you name them off for me?
Kindest
John
-
I have a few different actual photographs of the Clinch Bros and can name them all from these photographs - please give me a little time and I will see if I can get someone to scan them for me and then name them. I find it difficult from the newspaper picture, I also have details of where they all were on the 1901 and 1911 census if anyone is interested - in Wales not Ireland. Been researching this family for about 10 years and have lots of info. My maternal grandmother was one of their sisters and came to live in Manchester with her husban and family around April 1911.

Shelagh,
Just on the parents; Thomas and Catherine Clinch(Hughes) did they also move to Wales, or remain here in Ireland?... If the remained here, I can do a look up to see where they are interred?
Cheers

Their parents remained in Baylands Camolin all their married life until they both passed away in December 1920 within 4 days of each other I have copies of their death certs. I've also details to the present day relatives of most of these brothers. If you care to let me have you address or email address I would get copies and send them to you with details of the history I've accumulated of this family. I'm not very good at these sites at all - too old!!

I am interested in researching the Clince family from Wexford which I believe is a variant so any info gratefully received. I note the same Christian names Edward, Michael, Patrick and John. My great great grandmother Julia (Judith)Clince was born circa 1859 daughter of Michael Clince and Johanna Byrne.

Hi Shelagh
I hope you are keeping well. The book is now complete and will be launched on the 17th Nov. so at last I am free to conduct some family research again. I may have something of Interest for you which I spotted while researching for the book. I have a Mary Clinch on the Camolin School register. Her address is given as the Baylands and she commenced school in Camolin on the 22nd Mar 1909 then aged 10 years of age. Her parent’s occupation is given as ‘Welsh Sergeant’. Did one of the Officers children come back to live with their Grandparents in the Baylands?
Cheers for now

Hello John G.
Glad to hear you have finished your book - it must have taken a lot of your time and patience. Look forward to reading it.
Many thanks also for the info on Mary Clinch school record. I will now have to check as it could lead to something quite interesting. I am not aware of this but there was a Catherine Mary Clinch born in Wales to Edward Clinch around Jan/March 1898 so perhaps it is her but a year out in age???. Will make further investigations and come back to you. Are these School Records available online please?
Thanks a lot .
Shelagh.

Sorry Shelagh that's what must have happened. I don't see an immediate link to our families but I will store it and continue to work. I will keep an eye out for your missing links. Thanks

Thank you jytefas and Clinhug for your outreach. For those unfamiliar, I have been working through the Wexford hub to track down Clinch ancestors in late 1700 and 1800's. My effort to date has been centered on figuring out the genealogy of Fr. Thomas Clinch who died at the Battle of Vinegar Hill, 1798. He is described by several primary sources as a tall and big man, as was my immigrant ancestor who arrived at New York 1853.
Fr. Clinch's Bishop writing in the heated aftermath of the failed revolt tells of him being a native of Camoliln (north of ferns). Several writers tell of the family moving to the area of Glenbrien shortly after his birth (Townland of Oulartwick).
Following his death, there seems to be a trend of naming sons Thomas within this family group. I am aware of 2 Thomases in mid 1800 in USA. My GGGrandfather from Ireland settled north of Chicago by 1860 near to a Thomas Glynch and brother Joseph Glynch. Nearby farms bear names of other 1798 rebel families.
The photo the Camolin Officers in uniform is of interest to me. learning of the 1798 to 1850 space is of continued interest.

My grandfather, John, was the youngest of the police brothers from Camolin, County Wexford, who joined the Glamorgan Constabulary. His son, Desmond, sadly passed away this year at the age of nearly 96.
Kevin
-
Kevin- I am sorry to hear that - it was a good age. I have not yet been able to prove a link between Clince’s and Clinch ‘s . Did you by any chance do a DNA test ?
-
My father celebrated 93 this week, God rest Desmond. I had my father' Y chromo done on family tree dna, but iam not tech saavy enough to move beyond that point. I have the autosomal on ftdna also. I would like to see if there is a connection.
