Am hoping someone may be able to help me??
I have a Richard Waghorn born abt 1790s who married an Elizabeth. 6 of their 9 children 1819-1840 were baptised/born East Peckham, the other 3 born in Trottiscliffe.
Can anyone help with Richard's baptism and his marriage??
Also, their daughter Elizabeth born 1837
appears to have had 9 illegitimate children 1855-77.
Do not have a clue who the father(s) could be - are there :-\ any records that would help, bastardly orders or such and how would I go about accessing them?
thanks so much

Have had a look through some transcripts for East Peckham PR's, but not had any luck with a baptism or marriage for Richard. I found his burial, 27 Feb 1848, Holy Trinity, East Peckham, aged 54. Also found what is probably the burial of his wife, Elizabeth, aged 100! On 23 Mar 1890, same church.
I found some of the baptisms for their daughter Elizabeth's illegitimate children, also at Holy Trinity. Sometimes a supposed father is added to the baptism record, but there don't appear to be any notes on the transcriptions I have concerning any fathers. Other parish records, bastardy orders etc if available would be at the Centre for Kentish Studies at Maidstone, but I think there is a bit of an upheaval there at the moment because they are moving, so I don't know what can be accessed at present.

One of the Childrens Birth Certs born post 1837 to Richard/Elizabeth will give you her maiden name.
Birth Reg;
Henry Robert WAGHORNE, June 1840, Malling, 5 316
They may have married anywhere.
1851 Census Elizabeth is born c 1794, place NK (not known). Henry Robert is under Robert only age 10.
And in 1861 Elizth Waghorn is born c 1793, London. She is with Daug Elizabeth and her 3 Daughters, Emma, Mary Ann, Matilda

Just a quick update Elizabeth Charlotte Waghorn was baptised 1837 East Peckham to Richard and Elizabeth. She died 1912. Still no further forward with her children's father(s) though!
thanks so much

I note some trees have Elizabeth's maiden name as Strickland but no sources!
However, according to the birth entry for their son Henry Robert Waghorne June quarter 1840 Malling on GRO's own site (now showing mothers maiden names) Elizabeth's maiden name was Archer - also confirmed by Elizabeth Charlotte's birth entry in 1837.
Annette
Added: I doubt you'll ever know the father/s of Elizabeth Charlotte's children.

Hello Annette
thanks for the info but....cannot find the index anywhere! Could you send me the link?
thanks so much.
Yes, all the trees online at Ancestry are wrong. most have guessed parents etc and marriages. I did start trying to correct them with proof but was too much!

~Well, what a surprise. :'( Every online tree i have found regarding Richard and Elizabeth Waghorn are all incorrect. Confusion appears to arise from grandson William Richard. He has incorrectly been added as a child to Elizabeth Charlotte even though her son was called William Henry. And would you believe, some trees have him as "William Richard (Henry) Waghorn"!
anyway, took time especially with the inter marriages (Waghorn men remarrying cousins' wives' sisters) but all sorted now. Thanks for the tip Annette re the indexes. Huge help. ;D
