I wondered about that one too - John's occupation given as a Labourer on marriage 1859 both minors at marriage

Information on the Marriage Certificate for Genealogy Research
if it says "minor" or "under age" that means between the ages of 12 and 20 for a girl and 14-20 for a boy,

I can't place a John & Ellen with occupation Labourer on 1861c there's this one wrong occ. though ??? and it would mean son Thomas born before marriage 1859 ???

1861 RG9; Piece: 3098; Folio: 101; Page: 33
John Collins 24 Ireland cotton spinner
Ellen Collins 21 Ireland
Thomas Collins 4 (1857) Blackburn
Anne Collins 2

Edit

Don't think the above is your John & Ellen as there's a marriage in Blackburn 1855 John Collins & Ellen Hagan names on same page  ???  ???

Haven't been able to find an Ellen Grady with father Andrew occ. Labourer on 1851 census either

Oops :-[ I think I jumped ahead of myself, as I saw the name Grady listed with the family & may have jumped to conclusions

Edit: - apologies - It appears the one I suggests is this couple:

Collins  John     Wirral  8a 542

John Collin's age 70 gives birth c1831
Ellen age 60 born c1841 Upholland

You mention that both John & Ellen are minors on their marriage 1859 looking at the 1901c John should have been about aged 28 in 1859 when he married so I would have thought of full age  ??? Is this definately the correct family 1901c

1891 RG12; Piece: 3024; Folio 89; Page 13 – 348 Fleet Lane

Ellen wife 35? (1836)  bn Upholland
Esther E daur 5 bn Upholland
Charles son 7 months bn Rainford

This looks to be son Charles birth entry unfortunately it doesn't give mothers maiden name to check whether it was GRADY - Do you have any of the childrens birth certificates ? It maybe worth checking that this is the correct family

Birth entry from lancashire bmd
1870 COLLINS Charles Rainford St Helens RAI/7/33

I can't find a John Collins born c1831 Much Woolton & Ellen born c1836/41 Upholland on the 1861 c the appear very elusive  ???

As hard as I try I can't seem to find a match for  Ellen Grady born c1836 Upholland on 1841 or 1851 censuses  ???

Which of the 3 children esther Ellen, Charles and Mary Ann is thought to be your direct ancestor?

If the couple were in Liverpool Workhouse in the 1861 census they would show within the pages for the workhouse. It's more likely they have been badly transcribed or they are using a different name.

To add to those 3 children there's also a Michael in 1869.

Then there are the children of John Collins and Ellen Ashurst!

We really need the name of the proven ancestor - a child of John and Ellen and what it says on the child's birth certificate. Otherwise we're going round in circles.

Yes I agree Gibel

Do you have Charles or any other child’s birth certificate to confirm mother’s maiden name?

This is his birth entry from Lancashire BMD http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/cgi/birthind.cgi?county=lancashire

1870 COLLINS Charles Rainford St Helens RAI/7/33

Have you checked the 1911c for Charles & Bridget to see if he is still living with his parents
John & Ellen this may give an indication as to how long J & E have been married

Do you know if boarder Thomas Collins b1843 Woolton living with John & Ellen on 1891c is related ?

for info. in case it relates - don't know if there is a connection to John Collins but this looks to be Thomas Collins with his mother & siblings 1861

Hi paulwaring there's a public tree on A******y but there is no source for the info. given so cannot say how accurate it is

No parents names given for John & Ellen or marriage details, they name two children Mary Ann 1872 – 1955 & Charles 1870 Rainford married Bridget Gavin dau Mary Ann 1902

Death John Collins 13/02/1911  48 Perckershill Road Sutton born 1838
Death Ellen Collins 15/12/1904 90 Perkshill Road Sutton born 1836 - Ellen Bannister bapt. St. Thomas Upholland 28/8/1836

I have found this christening record to confirm parents names of Ellen Bannister
Christening date 28/8/1936 Upholland Lancashire parents James Bannister & Esther

and here she is on the censuses

28 Feb 1829 All Saints, Wigan
James Bannister  (X) Esther Heaton  (X)
both of Wigan Parish
Wit Samuel Hickox Saml. Vizard

1841 HO107; Piece 522; Book: 20; Civil Parish: Wigan ED: 4; Folio: 7; Page: 6; Line: 9
Damels Lane Upholland
James Bannister 30 Cotton Weaver
John 12
Edward 10
Elizabeth 7
ELLEN 5
All born in this county

14 Jul 1845 All Saints, Wigan
James Banister (X), 38 Weaver Widower father John (dead)
Ellen Howarth (X) 34 Weaver Spinster
Both  of Up Holland
Wit Thomas Hirst, (X); Catharine Bancks, (X)

1851 HO107; Piece: 2201; Folio: 75; Page: 5;
James Banister has remarried Ellen
3 step children surname Howarth & 3 Banister (ELLEN is 14)

1861 Ellen is not at home with father James

The only way of confirming these details is to obtain Charles Collins 1870 birth certificate (details given above) to confirm his mother’s maiden name - you can then look for John & Ellen’s marriage
I may have missed something but I can’t find a BANNISTER/COLLINS marriage on Lancashire BMD or FreeBMD  ???

Looking at the free index 1911 Charles & Bridget are living in Warrington Lancashire with their children Martin 12, Ellen 10, Mary Ann 8,  James 6, Thomas 5 & Charles 10 months

Hope the info. may prove helpful in your search please let us know if you find out anything or have any more details on you Collins family so we may be able to help further  :)
