Title: St Helena's Home, West Ealing
Post by: enamay on Tuesday 01 November 11 21:30 GMT (UK)
St Helena's Home,51 Drayton Green, West Ealing was a female reformatory for "fallen" women run by Sisters of Mercy.  I have found an ancestor listed as "inmate" on 1911 census - are there any records of births/adoptions etc available anywhere?  The home has now been demolished.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi

Have you enquired of the Sisters of Mercy whether there are any surviving records, if so do they still hold them or have deposited them and if so where?

Enamay,

The building has only recently (during the summer) been demolished. There was a big article about it in our local paper - a part of local history being lost, etc.

If you google "51 Drayton Green" (including the quotes), you'll find a number of sites referring to it. If you then switch to "Images" (within google) you'll see a number of pictures, both inside and out.

As for the records, i cannot help there.
