This is from an 19th cent service record
(http://www.grantonline.com/grant-family-genealogy/Tipperary/Moyaliffe/moyaliff-trees/prince-grant/parish-kilvalneg.jpg)
1. I am fairly certain that it is a Protestant Parish
2. The record says near Thurles which is what I expect
3. The chap was living around Drumbane/Moyaliff when he enlisted
4. It looks like "Kilvalneg" but I cannot find a suitable parish in the area
Any thoughts?

Hilvaling?

Thanks
But the trouble is that whatever it is, must be a Tipperary parish, and I can find neither Hivaling nor Kilvalney among Tipperary C of I parishes
Certainly the first letter could be an "H" or a "K"

There is a Killavinoge -according to the Seanruad site in the PLU of Thurles and in the PLU of Roscrea.
that's all I can think of. It borders Templemore rather than Thurles CP

Thanks annclare
That is certainly a runner, unless anyone can come up with anything else
It was probably written down by an English sergeant who enlisted him, and was what the sergeant heard spoken with a Tipperary accent.
His parents were certainly at Moyaliff at other times, and that was where I had expected to find him. However between Thurles and Roscrea is certainly not out of the question, just take a bit of digging to see if I can fine the family thee for a short period.

I'd say its kilvalure, it is in the Moyalife townsland and there is a church and cemetery there now. It is near both ballycahill and drombane villages in co. tipperary
see this article that references it! http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/1205/1224308582917.html

Thanks for that
Looks like a runner - trying to find it on the map (Old OS online) is that the old church just north of Moyaliff House
