Hello - I'm new to this, but have been amazed by the information people on here have been able to provide! I am trying to learn more about more mother's paternal family line - Pickles from Lothersdale.
I have been lucky enough to be given a copy of a family tree produced by a Mr Wilson several decades ago, but I now want to add some details to the names and dates, and wondered if anyone could help in suggesting a next step.
I know there are many branches of the Pickles family from Lothersdale, but my grandfather was Thomas Pickles born 1923, his parents were Seth Pickles and Mary Ellen Bowker, Seth's parents were Frederick William Pickles and Emily Kay, and FW's parents were Thomas and Annis Lumb. I'd be interested in finding out anything about any of these people. I believe most of them were farmers who lived in or around the Lothersdale area for many generations. I also have a note saying that Annis may have been a teacher, she married Thomas in 1866, so I guess if she was a teacher she would have had to stop teaching at that time? but I'm not sure where she taught - whether it was Lothersdale or elsewhere, but I believe she was originally from Leeds.
I'm new to this so not really sure what my next steps should be or really what information is out there, but I want to try and get beyond the names and dates to get a 'feel' of what life was like for my ancestors - photos, where they lived, occupations, news clippings, etc...
Thanks in advance of any help anyone can offer

Hi and welcome!
Lothersdale is a most beautiful place - we used to drink in the pub there. Lothersdale is still quite small.
If you google 'Lothersdale pictures' there are some great photos come up.

Hi Rachel
If you go to Craven indexes, you can dowload most indexes including Lothersdale.
There is also a bonus download with this there is quite a few old pictures of Lothersdale.
Yes there is a charge for the indexes of £10 but well worth it.

Hi Rachel, I have a pickles in my tree from lothersdale but am stuck and can’t get any family on him…John pickles born 1801 and a lime burner. I think some of the family worked at the nearby quarry, sorry I have forgotten it’s name, but I noticed on one of the replies to you, that there is a Herbert noted as a lime carter. I would appreciate any help…we may be related! 🙂 Mel

Welcome to Rootschat Mel.
The original poster Rachael hasn't been on here since 2012 so if still around or has the same email address will hopefully see your reply.
