Hello,
Im looking my Nans side of the family who I dont know much about.
I believe I have found my 2nd great grandmother Louisa Blackburn who was approx 1881 in Leeds she had a son William Arthur who is my great grandfather in 1896, on Williams marriage cert a father is not listed which I can understand at Lousia's young age (she also went on to have a daughter Caroline out of wedlock).
I have found a marriage for Louisa to a William Thompson in 1914 and Louisa's father is listed as Richard Blackburn who is deceased, howevere I can not find anymore informatin on Lousia or her father.
Can anyone help?
Many Thanks
Lucy

The date for William Arthur Blackburn seems to be 1898, based on freebmd births, and the 1920 marriage to Amy green.
Where is he in 1901 & 1911?

Hi Pauline,
Thats all the information I have on William Arthur Blackburn apart from is death date which was 1940.
I cant seem to find William or Louisa in the 1901 or 1911 census.
The addresses of where both Louisa and William Arthur are listed as living at on both their marriage certs is 18 All Saints Street, Leeds.

Hi Lucy,
We are not allowed to do 1911 census look ups, but you can use the free index if you don`t have a sub. You would have to buy credits to view the image though.

Make sure you click on "show advanced fields" at the bottom
Try typing in just the surname and the address you have from 1914.
Strange that her marriage certificate lists her father as Richard, BUT I have found a very odd 1901 census entry in the name of Turner ::) I will look into it and get back to you.

Ok, so something also is very odd.
1911 Census state living at 18 All Saints Street, Leeds is William Blackburn and Louisa Blackburn listed as grandson and daughter of the head of house who's name is William Blackburn married to Caroline.
I'm so confused!!!
Thanks for any help.

William Turner married Caroline Blackburn in 1878 so a few years before Louisa was born. Arghhh!!
Have you found who I think it is in the 1901 or would you like me to post it?
I am not surprised you are confused.

Mo - Thank you so much, its starting to make sense. Thats why I cant find a marriage for a William Blackburn and a Caroline ? in Leeds and in the census!!! It seems both mother and daughter were naughty as was ungeard off in them days.
Please can you post it for me?
And one more question.....why in the 1911 census is both William and Caroline listed at Blackburns would William of taken Carolines name? and Why is Louisa's father listed as Richard Blackburn on her marriage cert??
Thank you again after 12 hours I feel I might be getting somewhere!!!

1901 Census
14 Chapel Street, Leeds
William Turner, Head, Mar, 49, Laundry Proprietor, London Mid
Caroline, Wife, Mar, 47, Leeds Yorks
Louisa B Turner, Daur, S, 20, Laundress, Leeds
William A Turner, Grandson, 3, Leeds
Of course this may not be them, but I have a strange feeling it is, especially with Williams place of birth.
I honestly don`t know why the change of name, but sometimes it was done for convenience - they may have owed money or didn`t want to be found for whatever reason. It doesn`t explain Louisas father being Richard, but the address on the marriage certainly matches with what you have found.
The mystery deepens!

I know I wanted some sort of mystery in my tree but this is just to confusing!!!!
Im with you and have a feeling this is them! Everything matches up, I have now been able to find Louisa birth and the name is listed as Louisa Blackburn Turner which matches the B in the 1901 census.
But the big mystery is the Richard part on her marriage, unless the marriage is off another family memebr called Louisa Blackburn, as I have not searched for a marriage for Louisa Blackburn Turner, if that dont turn anything up I'm not sure what to do

Right, have had a look on a*****ry for the baptism registrations for the 2 children William Arthur Blackburn and Caroline Blackburn, they are both there.
William Arthur is actually baptised William Arthur BlackMAN Turner, with a father called Albert Butt (or Bull) Turner (Laundry Proprietor) and Louisa Blackman Turner. He was baptised on 13 February 1898, with him being born on 12 January 1898. They are down as living in Chapel Street, Leeds, being baptised at St. peter's Church.
Caroline is also baptised at St. Peter's Church, this time being baptised as Caroline Blackburn on 26 July 1901, being born on 28 June 1901, just with louisa Blackburn as being her mother. She was still living at Chapel Street at this time.
I think if you were looking for William Arthur's father in the 1901 census, I would look for either an Albert Butt or Albert Bull.
Hope this helps :)

The only other thing I can think of about Louisa's birth is that perhaps William wasn't her father ??, on looking at the 1881 census, Caroline was living with her parents under the name Caroline Turner and her daughter Louisa was down on the census as MARGARET B Turner .I cannot find any record of where William Turner was, even though they had married in 1878.
It's very strange, I wish you good luck in this one :)
