Hi
I would be grateful if anyone could look up a birth for me the name being Thomas Ainsworth Coyne who was born in Canada in 1855,unfortunately I don't know which area he came from so it is probably a near impossible ask. I do know his fathers name was Samuel and mothers name was Margaret McLeod, his father Samuel was in the RCMP.If anyone can find anything it would be most appreciated.
Cheers

Thanks Sandra yes I was part of that message board.
Problem is I know nothing of of his life in Canada, only found his parents names from his death entry here in Australia.I would assume he had siblings.

Reading the other posts - the stumbling block might be that - " T. A. Coyne is known as Joseph Coyne on the birth cert of his son Joseph Francis " ???
Strange

Do you have any idea what year Thomas left Canada?
Where did you get information that his father was in the RCMP? The RCMP didn't actually come into existence until 1920 when the governement merged the North-West Mounted Police (formed 1873) with the Dominion Police.

Thanks Jacquie, well that can't be right then,I got it off someone who posted on ancestry about 11 years ago,I tried to contact the person but no word, probably inactive.
No I don't know when he came to Australia, don't know if he married Amy Sophie Fleetwood before he came,I have found her birth entry from the Uk.Their is no Aus entry for their marriage, they may have just lived together in Australia or a possiblity they could of married in Canada.I am guessing he probably came to Australia as a young man in the 1870's and met Amy here.I can't evn find any evidence of them arriving here from any of the passenger list. Thanks for trying to help Jacquie but I think I have hit a brick wall.

The Australia marriage database has a marriage listed for an Amy Sophia Fleetwood to a John Hall in Queensland on 20 Dec 1883. There is also a death listed in the Australia death index for Amy Sophia Hall on 6 Oct 1935. The death index says her parents' names were Thomas William Fleetwood and Amy Rook. If those are the same Amys then it would seem she never legally married Thomas.

Wow Jacqui, yes she is the same Amy,how did I miss that one,Yes she obviously didn't marry Thomas and only 14 when she married John Hall, wonder if there are any children to him, will have to do a search. At least that tells me that Thomas came to Aus not with her anyway.

Could this be a possibility for Thomas going via London or just coincidence ???
Thomas Coyne. Born about 1855 and aged 22 years.
Port of Departure: London, England to Brisbane, arriving 2 July 1877 on the Rodell Bay.

Yeah Sandra I did see that one,not sure, now I know he never had a wife when he left Canada ,so it is a possibility he left as a young man and this person did go to Brisbane in Queensland and Thomas lived in Queensland.Only if there was a way of finding out for sure. Thanks, I will look for a passage from Canada to London an see what I can come up with.

Hi Sandra
I'm VERY new here and believe the Thomas Coyne (Kyne) on the Rodell Bay to Brisbane that arrived on 2 July 1877 is the brother of my g-grandmother Honora Comer/Comber who was approx 23 years. They were travelling initially from Galway to NZ. We have only recently discovered their ship (Rodell Bay) arriving in Brisbane after years of searching ships to NZ direct from UK. Honora and her husband John Comer/Comber were accompanied by three of their children Patrick, John and Bridget. Another son Michael, was born on the voyage in the Great Southern Ocean. At some time after arriving in Brisbane they travelled to Milton, NZ and settled there but we don't know when. Another son Thomas who had stayed behind in Galway arrived in NZ in 1979 with his aunt Margaret Coyne. Eventually most of the family returned to settle in Australia. We haven't investigated this Thomas as yet so have no idea whether he continued to NZ with the family or stayed on in Aus. That's another branch for us to investigate. :)
Not sure if this helps you or not.

My apologies, I should have directed the last post to bozzo2 as they are the one searching for a Thomas Coyne.

No problem Monica, at least we know that particular Thomas Ainsworth Coyne wasn't the one on the Rodell Bay and he remains elusive for the moment. ;D

Thanks Monica for the info,at least we can discount that Thomas and my Thomas seems to be a very elusive man, hopefully something will pop up one day.
