He supposedly was in the Royal Irish Regiment and died at the Somme in 1916 on 3rd Sept.
he came from Co Cork and was a close friend of my wife's grandmother

CWGC database gives next of kin details- "Son of Mrs. M. E. McBrinn, of 2, Roseleigh St., Belfast."

Here's the family in 1901 census- John Charles with mother Mary Ellen:

Wow & Thanks
I also enquired of the same sources and got nothing back except two entries for ww2 ! - maybe it's the way i do it :'(

I just put J C McBrinn in CWGC search page and got the one result.
Couldn't find the 1911 census at first so tried 1901. Then went back to 1911 and searched for Roseleigh St. (address from CWGC) without any name, put names in alphabetical order and found the 'McBrien' family.

Very strange - That's what I thought I did - but my search produced nothing neither did a search of RIR Soldiers. Thanks for your help

Hi,
When searching the CWGC search site it is important to put a space between a person's initials. Not doing so is a common error.

Hi, JC McBrinn is my great uncle. I'm interested to know how he knew your grandmother. John died at the Somme on 3 Sept 1916.
