Wondering if anyone has any information on the parents of Janet Brown (MS Angus) from Old Kilpatrick.
Janet's Parents were Walter Angus and Jane Martin (my 4x Great Grandparents). Its states on her death certificate that her father Walter was a Taylor, but have no further info other than that they were dead in 1888.
Janet was born around 1810-1812 in Old Kilpatrick and later moved to Greenock with her husband James Brown and family where she died in 1888.
I have lots of information on the Browns after they moved to greenock but struggling to get further back.

the IGI has the extracted marriage for James & Janet in batch M115016 for Old Kilpatrick dated 5/6/1841, the day before the census of that year. There's also an extracted baptism for Janet in batch C115015 for Old Kilpatrick showing her as born 24/7/1811, baptised 4/8/1811 daughter of Walter Angus & Jean Martin. 2 sisters in the same batch, Mary born in 1809 & Jean in 1807.
Walter Angus married Jane Martin 19/7/1806 - IGI extracted batch M115015 for Old Kilpatrick.

Walter Angus & wife are on the 1851 census. He's the postmaster at Hardgate. 2 daughters living with them, Mary aged 41 & Margaret 33.
The census gives Jean's place of birth as Kilsyth & there is a possible baptism that fits
Jean Martine bp 17/9/1786 daughter of James Martine & Jean Bulloch IGI extracted batch C114837 for Kilsyth, Stirlingshire.
Walter died before the 1861 census, but Jean is still alive, so her death registration will give you the names of her parents. Same for Walter if he died 1855 or later.

Thanks for that.
I have all the info on James Brown and Janet including their Marriage Banns.
Found the Census record you mentioned on Ancestry, Will check out the leads on the children you mentioned.
Have found a public tree which also seems to be the same family.
According to that tree Jane Martin died on 16 Jan 1864 at Old or West Kilpatrick, Dunbarton, Munroe's land, Hardgate, Death, cancer of the stomach, 9 a.m.
That record also states that Christening at Luss, Dunbarton Age 8, 17 Apr 1794 so will need to check those out.
have also done a search on Family search for Walter Angus and found a possible match for his birth / baptism Parents: Robert Angus, Mary Knox, baptism/christening date: 19 Nov 1780, place: CADDER, LANARK, SCOTLAND birth date: 05 Nov 1780.

just checked the death reg for Jean Angus on ScotlandsPeople. Her age is given as 77 and the names of the parents are shown as James Martin & Jean Bulloch, same as the ones on the baptism in Kilsyth that I gave you, so I don't know how the tree owner could match that death reg to the baptism in Luss where the parents are Hugh Martin & Jean McNiel. Also, her place of birth is given as Kilsyth, not Luss.

Thanks very much for your assistance.
After I sent the message last night I looked at the ancestry tree to Oenogal's family tree,
only to find Hugh Martin & Jean McNiel as her parents.
Turns out she has 2 differant trees with different parents for Jean/ Jane.

Are you related or just really helpful. :-)
Regards Mark.

I'm not related, just trying to be helpful & showing the sources that are out there & available to check. It goes to show that other people's trees are not to be relied upon & just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's correct.

Hello,
My great grandmother was Mary Brown that married James Smith from the area. I don't have my tree with me at this moment. My grandmother was Grace Smith born 1858 in Cumbernauld married Robert McKenzie from Cumbernauld, stonecutter, married about 1884.
