Title: Ancesty.com Charges
Post by: mermaid-nl on Wednesday 26 October 11 09:50 BST (UK)
Hello everyone,

I'm in England and have subscribed to Ancestry for quite a while.  Whilst helping my Aunty with her computer we got talking about Ancestry.com and it turns out she is paying a LOT less than me.

I pay about £25.00 a month but hers is something like £12.00.

Does anyone know why this is?

Thank you in advance.

Hi

It probably depends upon which subscription package you are subscribed to and whether you pay monthly or annually.

If you are a member of the National Trust and join through them it is a lot cheaper  but I dont think you would get many records for £12.

The dearest yearly (UK)subscription is £155.40 for their 12month Worldwide. The lowest £83.40 for their Essentials Membership.
Paying monthly increases the amount.ie: £18.95 per month for Worldwide Membership

Just log on to "My Account" to find out just what package you are on.

Thank you everyone.

I've got monthly World Explorer Membership.  Turns out quite a bit more expensive!  Think I'll just pay the lump sum.

You guys just saved me a whole bunch of money  :D

Hi

If you are looking at the Worldwide Subscription then it is worthwhile checking the rates for the various Ancestry sites, last time I looked it was far cheaper to subscribe through Ancestry.co.uk than through Ancestry.com. The main reason is changes in the exchange rate over the last year or so.

Hi Andy,

Thank you very much for that tip.  I didn't realise that.  I think I originally subscribed with Ancestry.com because on my bank statements there is always an overseas charge.  I'm a bit worried about un-subscribing and re-subscribing to be honest!

Hi

You can tell who you are subscribed through by the currency used to charge you. US Dollar = .com
It shouldn't be a problem in un-subscribing from .com and then subscribing again through Ancestry.co.uk,

Andy

You should NEVER subscribe to Ancestry by the month.

Even if you take out one of the highest rate credit cards and pay it off in a year, it will still be cheaper than Ancestry's monthly price.
