Title: Thompson family of Birmingham, UK
Post by: superwag on Tuesday 25 October 11 22:38 BST (UK)
I am searching for Joseph Richard Thompson.  Oral history says he came from Birmingham and was a silversmith.  He was born @1859.  He immigrated to the US @1881.  His father might have been John.  I have two names for a mother:  Sarah Ball and Sarah Howell.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat, was Joseph married when he emigrated, and did he leave after the 1881 Census, as there is this 1881:-

This is a possible only!

There is a family in 1861 with Father John, Mother Sarah and a Joseph aged 4 in Birmingham and in the household is a Sarah Howells aged 66 Widow but not shown as Mother in Law ?Census Ref RG09/2138/97/32

I cannot locate a Joseph Richard Thompson b Birmingham c 1859, maybe someone can locate one for you, if you can give any further info, or can confirm he was married(Hopefully) to a Clara!

On the 1900 US census Joseph is married to Lillian and it shows a son, Joseph born in England in Jan 1885.
Joseph states on his naturalization that he arrived July 12, 1885.

Will you give us further details form 1900 census?
Where were they? What was the reference?

Right, so Lilly & Joseph B Thompson arrived on the "Servia" 23 Feb 1886 when he was 10 months old.
She was 21 years.

Pauline,
You are good.  I found the passenger list that you gave me and Lilly and Joseph (infant) are on it.  Evidently, they came to the US after Joseph Thompson, the husband.  I am still searching for a marriage of Lilly to Joseph.  I don't think Parthania Adelaide Guest is the right one.
