Title: Help reading death certificate
Post by: Steve Pike on Sunday 23 October 11 21:11 BST (UK)
Help! We know my great uncle died in a farm accident but cant work out from the death certificate entry what it is he fell from. If it helps he was born and bred in dorset so it may be a local term for some sort of farm equipment?

Thanks!

I think it says "Accidental fall from Putt, Head crushed by wheel"

The OED defines 'Putt' as:
"A small cart used on a farm, esp. for manure;" (Eng. regional (south-west.))

Alexander,
That answer looks to be spot on, have even managed to find a picture of a putt cart now. Thank you very much
