Title: Humax HDR Fox T2 via Panasonic TV
Post by: ankerdine on Saturday 22 October 11 11:19 BST (UK)

I have just installed a Humax HDR FOX T2 Freeview+HD via HDMI leads to Panasonic TX-L32X20B Viera TV.
Overall I am delighted with the setup but I have two niggles I would like help with,
First it seems I need two remote controllers one for each, to start each product, can this be combined?
Second the TV defaults to none Humax TV on start up even though the AV setting is set to HDMI PVR and the Humax switched on, which means I have to enter AV settings menu on start up, to re-inforce the already selected HDMI.
I cannot believe this is the most efficient method of operation and would welcome any advice on these issues

Ours is connected to the TV via the same set up   We set the TV to hDMI14 (or the like) then we set the TV sound to about half way. We then alter the sound as necessary with the Humax control. We never switch the Humax off btw . On a morning we than switch the TV on and work everything via the Humax control. The only time we go back to the TV is when we are recording 2 and trying to watch another. The Humax help line is very good they will talk you through any problems you have

I think from my somewhat dated experience working for channel 5 in the late 1990s that you will be able to overcome the 2 controller problem by the purchase of a controller which is compatible with both systems, so you will then have 3! You can then dispense with the other 2, but keep them available (but take the batteries out to prevent leakages) as third party controllers seldom if ever support device set up options.

I have the 46" plasma version of this TV, and as long as you turn the TV on first, it should switch automatically to the relevant HDMI input when a signal is detected on it.  The Humax Fox T2 remote is programmable, and can operate 3 other devices as well as itself.  The remote has 4 illuminated buttons on it to indicate which of the 4 devices that it is communicating with.

Thanks to all who offered suggested solutions to my problems, and will I keep in mind Humax help.

To nick29, I had noticed the section on retuning the remote buried at the back of the book, but as I had never tried this process before and the instructions being scant I was reluctant to try.
I have now succeeded in getting all my kit onto one remote which is a major step forward.
Unfortunately the Humax box still does not grab HDMI2 (recommended) on start-up and even though permanently set it has to be prompted via the source button which will be confusing to occasional users.
I am at the moment running (when not viewing) the Humax on standby and the TV on but not receiving, thus eliminating the prompt but I do not feel this is a satisfactory solution.
The next move is to talk Humax help, so thanks again for your advice which has put me a good step forward.

Nothing, but I have now, the Humax and it works!

Providing I start the TV first on the combined remote, after a few second struggle the Humax grabs HDMI1 and it's away. Thanks that's brilliant and it proves not to believe all you read in manuals.

Great  :)   Apparently on some Viera models only the HDMI 1 socket was fully HDMI 1.4 compliant, which is why I asked you about HDMI 1  8)

It would be very helpful to lay users if the manuals were either updated, or reference was made to late alterations being available on a website. All too often the maual provided for an appliance is somewhat dated as compared to the appliance.

In the case of this Panasonic TV, the manuals are available for download from the Panasonic site.  However, since my version of this TV has already had 3 software updates in the six months that I've had it, how practical is it for me to check, and how often should I check ?  And, of course, this particular TV will only update itself if it is connected to a network with internet access, and some buyers may not bother to do so.  To be honest, the software updates to this TV have only been made to add functionality, which are fairly obvious to the user.

I think that very many users are confused by the surfeit of updating etc. They just want a working TV!

Flushed with the success of getting my remote controller and connection working I now intend to purchase the Humax wi-fi dongle in order to connect to the internet via my wireless router.
I have read some adverse comments about the dongles abilities, which were written about a year ago, does anyone have more recent experiences to share?

To be honest, at £39.99 you would be better off getting a couple of Power Line adaptors, which you can get for £25.99 a pair from Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/150039-extra-value-85mbps-powerline-adapter-twin-pack-great-price-int5500-twin-pack-)

These send the signals via your mains wiring, and you can get better speeds this way.  All you do is plug one adaptor into a 13A socket near your router, and plug a (supplied) cable from one of your router LAN sockets into the adaptor.  At the other end, you just plug the other adaptor into the wall, and plug a cable from that adaptor into the Humax.

Another advantage with these is that the dongle is specially made for the Humax, and probably won't work with anything else, whereas these Power Line adaptors can be used with anything.

Nick we use just the same system to use the 'net via our humax freesat box/panasonic telly. It works very well unless someone has nicked the Devolo (the ones we use) cable to use with their laptop, their games console or to put the dog online for all I know. I keep buying another set of plugs and cables, but the electronic devices seem to proliferate faster.

I first started using them when we wanted to put some IP cameras in places where it would be tricky to put in network cables, and I was surprised how well they worked.  When I wanted extend the system I bought some of the Ebuyer ones, not knowing if the different makes were compatible, but they all work just fine.
