Title: workhouse/lost rel

I havent done much research over the last few years but have decided to pick it up again and put all of my info on a new disc i have bought. But, typically my old research now looks a bit unclear!!! so I feel i am starting from scratch again!! I am looking for information on Whitehaven/Workington workhouse. I seem to remember a relative ending up there but am having difficulty finding the details. I think it was Edward Wilson Whitfield b 1833 and died 1883. I seem to recall that he died in the workhouse and wondered if there was information available about inmates??
Secondly I have never been able to find a relative on the 1901 census. He lived in Workington (wife Sarah nee Murphy) and she is there. He didnt die until 1937 (born in 1867 Ireland) so not sure where he is. Any help greater appreciated Cass ;)

Looks very interesting - most of the inmates seem to be working? or is it their previous jobs? Are there any records that might make it clear why a paticular individual went into the workhouse? Cass

Sorry Emms my post was for 2 different things! James Fagin( married Sarah nee Murphy) is the one that i cant find on the 1901 census (he died in 1937). John whitfield is the one who died in the workhouse. Cass ;D
