Title: the palace
Post by: carol at tankerton towers on Saturday 07 May 05 20:42 BST (UK)
Hi, does anyone know where I can find out info regarding  The Palace, apparently on a marriage certificate this is the address given. Her name was Honora Herbert, daughter of Maurice,  whose occupation was gardener. I wonder if he was employed there and it was an estate workers property

any help gratefully received from a rookie family historian who is now completely hooked!!

Hi Carol,

Welcome to RootsChat.

Could this be the Bishops' Palace in Kilkenny?  Try typing "Palace Kilkenny" into Google just to see what you get.  If so it seems that it is causing something of a debate in Ireland!

Hello,
I found your post as I was searching for anything on St. Michan's.

2 marriage certificates I'd ordered have just arrived, and both marriages were at St. Michan's.

Did you get to visit?  Any information about this church would be much appreciated!
Some internet searches have delivered some interesting details so far.
Thanks,
Charlotte

Hi, yes I have been to St Michans, it was weird, have got a couple of leaflets I could copy and send you through snail mail if you want.

do you want my private email address so that you can send your postal address to me

have not done much over summer as been playing in the garden, after all they're not going anywhere are they?

That sounds very interesting. My grandparents were Deborah and William Stafford of Dublin with connections to the widow's house in the grounds of St Michans Church.  I do have some photographs of Deborah and would like to hear from anyone with further information about them. Deborah hailed from Kilkenny and Tipperary I believe.  I have a lot of other Staffords that are relatives that may help someone.

Thanks

Hi Carol, thanks for your replies, how lovely to have a connection.  my grandfather was Richard Stafford dob 21.6.1896, born 12 Arbour Terrace Dublin, to Deborah Herbert and William Stafford, does this tie in with your family?  I always understood that Stafford was quite an unusual Irish name?  Grandad's name is on a scroll in St Michans.  Don't really know too much about this side of the family, but love being a quarter Irish!

look forward to hearing more from you

Carol

Hi yourself, your grandfather Richard Stafford was my uncle Dick, my mother's older brother.
I have some photos of him, I can scan in if you send me your email address.  I will try to send you mine shortly.  I have quite a bit of family information to share.

Good to hear from you
Many thanks
