Hi,
This is my first post in the Aussie section. My interest is in tracing female lines of St Enoder Morrishes
I have Catherine Morrish b 1845 St Enoder..married to John/James Rawling(s) in Cornwall, sailed to SA with her sister Phillipa and hubby Zac Golley ..both were newlyweds...Arrived in SA Oct 1866...no children yet.
Catherine's husband died at age 27 in Hummfray St Ballarat...in 1873 (1 year in Adelaide and 6 years in Vic) I have the death certiftcae...he left behind 3 kids...John James, William Thomas and Richard Henry. I have used NSW BDM to trace down the kids...could not find Richard Henry...the first two sons died in NSW. I can not find any trace of Catherine Rawlings nee Morrish.. Looked at VIC BDM index online, NSW BDM index online. Found a Catherine R married in nSW in 1930 but that would be too late..
Her close rellies were in Kingston (Morrish clan), Bendigo and Ballarat as well. Her sister Phillipa married Zac Golley and stayed in SA.. Another female line married Jane family and went to Sydney and another female line married Donningthones and went to NZ.
Catherine was still young and with no breadwinner..she must have done something. I have looked for variants Rawling/Rawling. The SA BDM is not online..being to local library but their microfiche collection is limitied. Any help or suggestions welcome........
Thanks...James M

Hi Cando
Thanks for the emaill..but this is another couple..I have them..they had 9 kids
The Morrish/Stoneman/Bullen and Rickard families are all connected in Vic and also female Morrish emigrants are connected to Golley, Rawling, Jane, Stribley and Donningthorne families.
My search Catherine Morrish parents were James Morrish and Elizabeth Flamack/Flamanck
Also.....at baptism of John / James Rawlings in Cornwal..his father was named as John - have this confirmed by OPC..yet on death certificate, says that father was William..this is strange as you would have thought that his widow Catherine wouild know her FIL name. I am sure that this is the right couple..I have the shipping list etc and Catherine details on hubbyes death certicate is good.
Thanks

Hi James, Do you have this record.

Hi Neil
Thats is good..I would say that it her...must have missed her somehow. Her grandson was Cyril O Rawling - who was in Mudgee area as well
I have tracked all other Rawlings - her sons stayed in NSW.
I have just seen your edit...her father was James and not Richard - her mother was Elizabeth Flamak/Flamnck....So maybe we have the wrong one...I was aware of two Catherine Rawling(s). going around
Cheers...James

Hi James the info on Death certs is only as good as intimate family knowledge of the person making the information IE Informant. It may still be the correct one but more info needed.
I will continue to check if interested

Hi Neil
I had this from someone else
There was a John Rawling who married a Catherine McPhee in 1840 NSW and there are birth indexes all through the 1840s for this couple.
There was a Catherine Rawling who married John Johnson in NSW 1877 reg no 3610 (this Catherine may also be a Catherine Rowling born 1847 to John and Catherine). Your post says that this is not so....as parents names are different
Having read your post again - Liverpool was also the area of her sons..so perhaps this is right. WHat do you think I should do next...get a certificate?
Thanks...James M
Re Post - yes this is now right..how easy was that!!!!

Hi James you can get a full transcript for both events much cheaper unless you want the certs.
Transcription agents are on the resources section for NSW and are licensed by NSW BDM. CC payment and it is emailed...thats easier, quicker and cheaper.

Thanks Neil
I had a hunch that she was in NSW based on sons and g/sons being there.
I had got myself into a brain freeze with this one it seems.
I think that she moved there as one of her cousins emigrated there - married a JANE.

Hey
They moved to Mudgee and this is where her sister Elizabeth Morrish and her hubby Richard Jane settled ...so joined her sister. Children incl Joseph Morrish Jane
So must have been close to her sister rather than moving to first cousins in Kingston!!!
Yet..she chose not to move back to SA with her other sister Phillipa and Zac Golley...whoem she sailed out with
Further, at her time of death in 1930 - only her kids and g/kids from her second marriage Johnson are mentioned in the funeral notice and not her sons from fist hubby Rawling even tho they are in NSW>

Hi James M,
Just wondering where you fit in the Morrish family tree.
My maternal grandfather was Frank Morrish from Kingston (near Ballarat), Victoria. Frank's father was John Morrish (1854-1912) and mother Anne Newton (1862-1936); his paternal grandfather was Thomas Carr Morrish (1827-1913) and mother Susan E Hooper (1829-1877). Thomas Carr Morrish's parents were Nicholas Morrish (1775-1852) and Mary Carr (1787-1850). We think his paternal grandparents were Nicholas Morrish (1741-1795) and Mary Hockins (1745-1785). Nicholas parents were Nicholas Morrish (1706-1753) and Mary ??? (1705 - 1785) and paternal grandparents were Robert Morrish (1672 - ??) and Katherine Treterrie (??-??). One of my brothers has established the family tree on ancestry.com
Grateful for any additional information you can provide.
Regards
Richard
