For my Great Grandfather (Fred Hall, b. 24/Sept 1892 d.19/Jun 1960)
I have a Certificate of Employment which shows:
Regiment Number 26549 rank Private
Regt Loyal North Lancs 12th Battalion
I also have his medal card which shows:
Durham Light Infantry Reg.4464 rank Private
Medals Victory + British X H/2/101 B12 Page 1605
Few questions on this:
1. did the loyal north lancs merge into the DLI ? - or did he for some reason serve under both?
2. Any suggestions on any other research i can do from the above info ?
Many thanks

He served in both Regiments...Have you checked Ancestry for any Service records? only about 30% survive though..also the War Diary probably wont name him but will let you know where they were..they are at Kew some are digitised for download on Docs online.
4464 suggests a territorial battalion 12th LNL was a Pioneer Battalion
Ill do some number crunching see what comes up

Ady - appreciate the help !
I am not aware of how to search for the Kew documents, anything you find around those would be great.
Thanks

ady - "4464 suggests a territorial battalion 12th LNL was a Pioneer Battalion" - can you explain what makes you say that? or what website did you find this on?
Thanks again.

Contained in this thread ive asked a Mod to converge them so we dont end up with two separate ones on same subject.1/12th Battalion (Pioneers)
Heres 1/12th LNL history...They were also a TF battalion so transfer between DLI (1/6th) and 1/12th LNL would make sense.
1/12th Battalion (Pioneers)
Formed as a Pioneer Battalion at Lytham St. Annes in April 1915. Attached to 69th Division at Thetford between 13 May 1916 and 1 June 1916.
1 June 1916 : attached 60th (2/2nd London) Division at Sutton Veny.
22 June 1916 : landed at Le Havre.
16 November 1916 : transferred to 32nd Division.
January 1917 : left Division and moved to Salonika, rejoining 60th Division on 23 January 1917.
10 April 1918 : transferred to 74th (Yeomanry) Division.
May 1918 : moved with Division to France.
